    No Phone~some relief at least

We had to move out of our home. It would not sell, they would not let it be assumed and it was a mess.
So we relocated to a rental.
Not realizing it we can't get phone calls as the creditors, who I did tell where we are, cannot call due to the new phone number. And I won't call them as they will get the number from caller ID and keep after me.
I cannot wait to see my attorney next week and get this show on the road to BK!
I get letters, lots of letters. I also get emails of course.
I think if I were going through this and staying where I was I would have changed my number for sure.

Not so. Check with your local phone company for the special code to dial to block outgoing phone calls. I know for AT&T, it's *67.

Interesting, but I don't want to talk to them anyway.
For the most part they have ignored my emails and mail anyway.
They will keep it up until I am filed.

This absolutely positively does not work when you call an 800 number (800, 888, 866, 877).

The reason is that they do not use Caller ID. The *67 only blocks Caller ID.

Companies which subscribe to WATS service (also known as the 800 toll-free service), get something called ANI (automatic number identification). It can't be defeated.

I know this because I use to work for the phone company many years ago.

if they cant get hold of you, they might start calling everyone you put down as a personal reference when you applied for the loan... that would be embarrassing..

The only people I list on a credit app are very close friends or relatives that would never give my number up to anyone.
And they all know my situation.

I have been told that by others here.
I have been told that they tell the creditors that you are seeking advice on a BK and the lenders sort of give up (or so I have been told).

Which company? My dad was 20 years with PacBell.

I'm wondering if this is still the case of what you mentioned above because we do get several calls a day on our 800 line at work that are blocked. And most of the time, it's from collectors looking for various employees (not me, thankfully).

I have caller ID and I answer nothing if it's block or the name if unknown or I do not know the number.
I am on the Do Not Call List and I report all who call with a formal complaint.
The ones that really get me are the ones that leave long winded recorded sales pitches on my answering machines.
That really ought to be against the law!

It depends if you subscribe to the ANI service on your 800 numbers. Trust me... any major call center subscribes to ANI, and CNI (Called Number Indentification). We used these to do reverse telemarketing on people (when I left the phone company).

Computer Telephony interface is prettty cool and I've done a lot of work in this area with call centers... and screen pops (where it automagically pulls up the customer's s full history when they call in from their home or other registered phone number). Fun stuff.

                      I was with Ma Bell.

                        Just adding something else.
I have been told that it's against the law for a telemarketer or any business calling you to have their caller ID blocked.
I know in the past when I have run into that I have always got a call back number from the business so that I could report them on the Do Not Call list complaint form and I note that the caller ID was blocked when I do.

That is absolutely, true. They were to update their equipment in 2007, I believe, so that they always display a number to Caller ID devices.

Many are not in compliance and I think on purpose.
I have reported several of them to Do Not Call List.
Like I said, I just play along, get a call back number and then report them with that number to DNC.
I understand they get fined. Anything I can do to help them works for me.
