Need Help EBAY sales question. Income?

Straight and simpl: In desperation I sold $6,000 worth of records on ebay over the summer. Does this count as income? If so it wrecks me for chapter 7 and I fail the median income, so input please!!

Thanks to everyone on here. I feel lot of support on here.

BTW, this sale was as a person, I don't have an ebay business or a business in any way. Thanks.

    BTW, I live in FLorida.

Leemiller: I believe you asked this question on two different threads. Please do not do this as it is against the rules and confuses many. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

My attorney had me guesstimate recent ebay sales and I mentioned one $1200 sale that went toward bills and that there had been various other small ones. He ended up just including the $1200 sale.

I was selling all my cool things to pay bills for the last 6 months before filling I guess though thats the right thing to do as filling isn't to get free stuff.
BTW anything I say here is just me yapping based on my experience. Your milage may vary.

if you were doing a resale as a business, i can see it... however, if you are just reselling personal stuff that you already paid for, would this make a difference? my guns and my beloved saxophone were sold to pay the lawyer...

I really don't see how selling anything to pay bills would ever be a problem if your being honest. (not trying to play favorites with one creditor) I could see maybe if you were selling stuff to go gambling or blew the money on luxury goods. Just be honest. They are trying to catch the thieves and abusers. The OP sold probably a beloved collection to try to avoid BK I think thats admirable.

If the sales were for small amounts over a period of time, I don't see how there would be a problem.

Though now that eBay requires having a PayPal account, you might have to include that in your paperwork. In our case, our Paypal account simply was a transfer point from buyer to seller and that amount went into our checking account.

you can always get a check from paypal and not deposit it into your checking... that might make a difference..

Yeah same here. My attorney didn't even mention the paypal account as I didn't keep a balance, just used to transfer to checking. Did they ever even become a real bank?

Not a problem. I did the same thing when newer. Welcome and from what I have seen this evening, you are getting much good help and opinion. I like eBay, but just have been too busy to play with it. It is fun and profitable. 'Hub
