What counts as income for BK?

My wife and I are retired and both medically disabled and can no longer work.
We are losing our home and RV and are in deep trouble. We have already moved into a rental so we have a place to live.
It appears we will have to file BK.
I have been told my retirement annuity (not SS) counts as income towards the median.
Are they looking at the gross or the net?
We still pay a lot in federal a state income taxes for example and have large with holdings as a result. We also have life insurance and medical premiums that come out of our checks. By the time all is said and done the deductions from my retirement check is nearly 25% of the gross.
Are there offsets to the income for these with holdings that are taken out of our checks or do they just county the gross in establishing the median income?

You start with the gross amount but, as you move through the forms, you take deductions for living expenses, insurance, medical, etc.

i just got an email from a lawyer inviting me for a consultation..... he said that since my entire income is disability, i may have a better alternative than bk... im going to find out what he has in mind..
