Has anyone used this service to prepare BK???

There is a website that lets you do a free means test online. For $29, they go through all 4 levels on the means test and guarantees 100% accuracy. A certificate is given to take to the attorneys or use or to take it to a online document preparer to verify that your documents include properly prepared Form 22a that is fully compliant with the means test requirements of the BAPCPA.

Is this legit, accurate, and as they say they are?

I have been through 2 attorneys to find out they are scums.

I read the info in the first link - how can they guarantee the means test is accurate when they do not even ask you for your exact income? They stated you only need to provide your approximate income. Seems to me that some people would put in a wage figure (maybe even net rather than gross) and leave out certain items that the trustee considers income (like a sale of securities/stock). The information coming out is as only reliable as the information going in (garbage in=garbage out). The hard part of the test is to figure out what the trustee counts as income; that is where a good attorney in invaluable. IMHO I would find an attorney in your area rather than trust a website to generate a certificate. The website can always fall back on the fact that you were the one that put the figures into the test.

Its a good idea to go to the trustee's site and download the means test and fill it out for yourself to bring along to the attorney's office to ask specific questions regarding income and expenes.

As to the attorney's being scum - its like anything else, you have to shop for the good BK attorney.

When you utilize services to prepare for a BK, you have no legal representation so if there are mistakes, it's your issue. Most places for a fee will give you anything you want including information how to stuff envelopes at home. BK can be complicated so I would highly recommend legal representation; just like fish in the sea, there are hundreds of lawyers. Call your state bar association and obtain the names of some reputable attorneys in your city/area. If you go to the place on the big TV ad or full page phone book ad, you get the discount services you pay for.

That is such a rip off. Pay $29 to do the means test. You can download the forms and do it yourself. Keep in mind, that 100% accurate guarantee is qualified by the fact that it is only as accurate as the information you supply. Waste of f'ing money IMO.

Keep in mind, these form preparers DO NOT analyze your petition. All they do is input the info you provide...garbage in, garbage out.

I had also been to that site and no way was I paying for the test. And as others have said garbage in, garbage out. Look at their free test ... almost any number will pass to lure you into paying for further testing.

Personally, I found a free software download called Blankrupter that I used as only a starting point to give me an idea as to whether I qualified for the 7 or not. It will let you enter numbers but print only after you pay for the software. I am still using an attorney to do the real means test and validate the info.

All in all, I am gladly going to pay an attorney a "mere" $2,000 to get rid of $535,000 in debt including the upside down house. Certainly worth the peace of mind.
