??? on Creditors starting new accounts during BK

    Hey Gang,

I am signed up on the equifax 3 in 1 monitoring/scorewatch system. Since our filing I have gotten notifications several creditors have opened new accounts on my file. Some indicate due to BK, some do not.

Is this a normal occurrance? Since we are in the beginning stages (Still waiting for 341) I don't want to worry about it too much, but I do want to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. So that when we're all done I don't have too many messes to clean up.

I pulled our reports the day of filing and everything was correct at that point.

    Thanks for the input!

Existing creditors "opened" new accounts?? Without your consent??

Are you sure your notification isn't 'updated' instead of 'opened"?? You need to look at the details of those creditors.

If this isn't the case, I am wondering if these 'creditors' are trying to pull a balance transfer (from old to new) so that can't be included in BK because it was opened 'after' the filing date??

I'd check this out very very carefully.

      Here is the alert text:

A new account at FIA CSNA has been opened in your name.

      The details show the following:
The following changes were reported for your FIA CSNA account:-
Company Name Changed from N/A to FIA CSNA
Account Number Changed from N/A to N/A
Date Opened Changed from N/A to N/A
Account Status Changed from to Not more than 1 payment past due
Balance Amount Changed from N/A to $11,735
Past Due Amount Changed from N/A to N/A
Date Reported Changed from N/A to 10/21/2008

I may call experian, or FIA (The creditor) tomorrow to get additional details.

I see two or three of these, all from CC companies who were included in our BK. One states due to included in BK.

I've monitored my credit from all three bureaus carefully for over a year and nothing like this has happened to me. It just doesn't sound right if you ask me!
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

Right before I filed I had dozens of those "changes" to my account entries. I made copies of them to save in case I ever needed them. Then first one or two I found freaked me out but then I saw dozens of them and just figured it was pretty standard practices. Now I am wondering if it is the creditors way of somehow re-aging the debt.

            Found out the issue

I determined what was happening. Since credit monitoring watches all three credit reports, several creditors only showed up on one or two of the CR's. It appears they sent the BK info to all three CR's, so for example.... Citibank had ever only been reported to equifax (for over 10 years), but just reported to Experian.

Therefore my alert was to show a new Citibank CC account on Experian.

Now, here's the question.... since they had never reported all the positive history for the many years we had the CC, can/should I dispute they now show a new account and/or one included in BK?

            Any thoughts?
