Question about selling vehicle prior to filing

Hi. I'm kinda new to this forum. Great information here.

I'm preparing to file in 6 or so months. I finally woke up to the realization I won't be able to pay back my $100K in unsecured debt. so i'm trying to put my affairs in order over the next few months.

Question........I have a truck we bought for my son worth about $5000. I have the title and it is listed XXX or XXX, both our names. I want to sell it prior to filing. Would there be a problem with the trustee and transfer of property ??

I have read somewhere they look back 1 year on vehicle transfers, and try to take any money gained. anyone had any experience with this or a similar situation ?? I am in southern cal.

If you sell or transfer it to an family memeber or other insider, you're asking for trouble.
It's possible given the value of the car you may be able to exempt it. Have you spoken with a lawyer yet?

I was going to sell it private party, and use the funds to pay property taxes. I was planning on file in in mabee 6 months, since I am not late to any creditior, and once I do become (CC) i can go for several months before before they could become ugly, them I will file
