Bank of America screwed up and I am furious!

I received a FedEx envelope today stuck inside my screen door addressed to me. It had my name and address on the envelope and it had a notation on it to destroy the package if it is undeliverable. Inside was a letter pertaining to Jane Doe's B of A account that included HER name, address, full account number and total amount owed. That means Jane Doe (or someone else) got a letter with all of MY personal information on it!!!

Clearly, some stranger has my name, address, my full B of A credit line account number and knows the amount I owe. My privacy has been violated in a big way and I am absolutely FURIOUS.

That's more common than you think. I would frequently get a credit card statement in the mail with the next person printed out after mine attached to it. Not only did I have all their information, they never received their bill. That is sometimes a reason why one may not receive a bill in the mail - it got attached to someone else's. That is one of the reasons why most places now request customers to go paperless. Hopefully the person who received your letter in their envelope will contact the Bank and you should do the same. Sounds like a nice letter to the Editor in your major state or county newspaper is in order along with a complaint to their CEO.

You do have a cause of action for invasion of privacy. You might mention that when you write the CEO of B of A.

Going "paperless" is fine for us who have computers at home. However there are more people out there who do not have a computer and/or don't know anyone with computers.
The OP's issue begins and ends with a bank clerk's error.

OMG. I didn't get my BofA bill last year... and I didn't pay... then they raised my promo rate to 18% or more... I bet they know that happens occassional and don't do anything about it... so that they can stick it to you. Another reason to never have a cc again!!
