Well. I assume people are pissed.

"The webpage at http://www.house.gov/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

The message when trying to visit the site

Ha, thanks for noticing. I am not entirely comfortable with that title nor shall I ever be because there is always so much I need to learn.

        I don't think I can live up.

Sadly the Senate passed an even more bloated 1424 than the House rejected on Monday. The Senate version includes 100 billion in unrelated spending and has measures for mental illness parity, subsidies for rum production and all kinds of crap.

Sadly one of North Carolina's senators voted for this Christmas Tree, and even more sadly he's not up for reelection this year, but we'll remember next election.

I hope and pray that the House does not pass this monster, the cure offered in it is worse than the disease, it's like those pharmaceutical commercials with the really fine print that if you read you wonder why anyone would want to take it.

I worry for us if it does pass, I'm not saying they do nothing but I think the RSC plan and Dave Ramsey's plans are far better.

I've already written thanking my one Senator and chiding the other for voting for it, and written my Rep asking she not support this monster (and I'm pretty sure she'll vote against it).

I concur. I had one Senator vote it down and the other vote for it. So, the canceled themselves out. I will be calling him later today.

Of course they added pork. That's the only way to pass ANYTHING in Congress.

More of the same. Vote the lot of them out.

Some of the pork would be that Rum Subsidy, there is also now a tax break for making wooden arrows for children's toys in the bill, there is some other odd stuff I think it starts cutting in around 503 or 530 in the bill.

Just FYI, this is a known tactic, to include other Omnibus-type budget items, so as not to get it shot down. For example, just attach it to "school lunches" and "clean air". No Senator wants to be said to have voted "against" school lunches!

Besides, the Senate can't make new bills, there's a process. So, what they do is... attach "new legislation to an old bill, then send it BACK to the House.

                        Nice trick.
