Sometimes people, before they file, go thru an euphoric period where they buy, buy, buy not realizing what they really are doing. Yes, they know they are going down, so they try their best to acquire as much as possible not realizing they are cutting their own throat.

I hope he realizes that a 400 dollar golf club will rouse suspicion by a Trustee.
We all kinda do dumb stuff leading up to Bk. Sometimes we know we can't afford stuff but we get it anyway. Mostly we do it because we feel bad and think it will make us feel better. However the euphoria is usually short lived for purchases.
If he has made similar purchases you probably need to wait 6 months after the last credit card use to file for a bk. This will help to avoid some objections.
It might be better to sit down and talk about it, mention that you know he feels bad but really getting more stuff is not going to help it in the end when you both know you can't pay for the stuff you got.May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer

It is not the trustee that will care about the purchase (unless it is not listed on Schedule B), it is the decision of the credit card company to file an AP if they feel fraud has been committed.
Good LuckDisclaimer: I am not an actor on TV, but I play a BK Paralegal in real life. Nothing I say should be construed as legal advice, or really anything but entertainment. Please seek out professional help.
