    student loan forbearance

For some reason i thought student loans automatically went into forbearance the day you filed. I understand that they will not be discharged but i thought the payments were in deferral until after the bk was complete. Is this not the case?

The reason I ask is because I drew my checking account down to next to nothing and then was hit with a NSF fee because my student loan tried to auto debit. My bk was filed on 9/9 and the debit just tried to process on 9/21.

I would have notified the lender myself but I thought that it was automatic.

they just did not get it yet, but you can file the forebearence asap just in case. I don't think its usually automatic however they stop collecting which is different than forebearance.

thanks for the quick response. i was going to call the lawyer about it in the morning. Do you think I will be able to get the NSF fee removed from my checking account? The reason I ask is because i only had $30 in my account and am now left with $5. I no longer am actively using the account but it's my only source for online payments and i need to take the second debt education course.

My husbands happened automatically. I didnt even realize it till yesterday when I received my first bill since June. I had completely forgotten about it and when I remembered the begining of September I was a bit worried.

Then the bill came this month showing the regular amount owed. Definately a happy moment.
