selling car parts from car under bankruptcy

had a question and surfed the internet for a while with no luck.

a friend has a car (same model as mine) and he was running short on money and has filed bunkruptcy. I am buying the motor/tranny out of his car and having it swapped into mine, same type of motor, just lower miles.

does anyone know if there are any laws against this or not? i wouldn't think there is as long as he still owns the car.

If your friend is in bk, that car is an asset and you sure would be breaking the law as well as him. He does not own that car at this time. The Court owns it. Taking it apart and devaluing it is like fraud. If I understood your question, that is my opinion. 'Hub
