I would like to attend a 341 hearing

    I am in Los Angeles.

How do I go about finding out where they are held?

I assume that these are open to the public.

Can I simply attend one to get a feel for what they are like?

    Thanks
Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.

I do not believe they are open to the public. People in the courtroom have to sign in (i.e., names checked off) before they are allowed to enter. Call the Clerk of the Bankruptcy Court in your area and just ask...

What Flamingo said might be true in the Mid-Atlantic area, but it wasn't true in our case. We went in the room and sat down. We were an hour early and there were no sign-in sheets or anything. Everyone else trickled in bit by bit afterward.

Up here in Sacramento they were held at one of the US Courts building, the one on I Street, Not the one on Capitol Mall.
Here they were open to the public
Sorry, don't know anything about Los Angeles except that it's always smoggy and that traffic is a b...h.

Thanks, I actually get to Sac once a month on business.

LA is much better than what it was a few years ago for smog but traffic is still a bear to deal with.

Basically, 341 meetings are held at the same time and place every week.

So just use your notice of 341 meeting, and simply show up on a different date.

So, for example, if your 341 is scheduled for 9:00am on Sept 2 (Tuesday), you could simply go on August 19 (Tuesday) at 9:00am, and odds are, there would be a 341 meeting scheduled.

341 meetings are not private by law, but some locations may have greater security in place than others.

But frankly, it is not necessary to get a preview.

Yep, me too...in NY. I had to sign in at the main court house entrance, but there wasn't an invitation list or anything. If that's the case in your area, HHM's answer sounds like good advice, since I'm assuming you want to see your trustee in action, not just any old random 341. You can get better info about that right here!

I agree with HHM...I had the same line of thinking as you did, as far as wanting to take an afternoon off and see a 341 in action. At the advice of everyone on here I didn't bother and everyone was right...it wouldn't have been worth taking the time.

However, if you are hell bent on going, not every place requires a sign-in. Ours was held at the registry of deeds and there was no sign-in. Anyone could walk in and observe a 341 if they wanted to.

Ours was held in a conference room off to the side of the main court room where everyone waited to be called. There were several conference rooms and the parties and their attorneys were called in one at a time to meet with the trustee. We weren't able to hear what was going on, and I'm not sure they would have let someone not affiliated with the case join the meeting in the conference rooms.

Ours was a big room with seats. The trustee sat at an L shaped desk in the front. If you needed to talk you were asked to go out in the hall to do so. You could see and hear everything in the front of the room. I just went early and observed a few. It sure made my 341 go fast because I already knew what questions she asked of everyone. Our lawyer was flagging the relavent pages in our petition and pointed to where we needed to look to find our answer. We were the fastest of the day. In and out in no time flat.

I don't know why you want to attend the 341 meeting. But, I do have to say I quickly figured out who the good lawyers where and who should be avoided just by watching a few in action. But other than that just showing up early should have you prepared when it is your turn.

Our district website has the dates and times of the weekly 341 meetings.
