    Credit Report?

How long can something stay on your Credit Repor?

I have a JCP credit card reported that was closed in 1995. Should this still appear? Would it raise my score to get it removed? Can I get it removed?
Filed 5/22/08 341 Meeting 6/19/08 (No Asset) Last Day for Objections 8/19/08 Discharged 8/22/08 Case Closed 8/25/08
    Credit Score 4/28/08--660 6/10/08--528 Credit Score 8/30/08--625

In general, seven years from the date of last activity, not the date of closing. If the account was closed in 1995, but your last payment was actually much later, count the time from the last payment. If your last payment was made prior to charge off, I'm pretty certain the date of charge off is the one that counts. (If I'm wrong on this last point I hope someone corrects me. )

If this is not the situation and your last activity was more than seven years ago, you can dispute this trade line on the basis of age (which would take it off your credit report altogether if successful), or, if it is not yet seven years but you included them in your bk by listing them in your schedules and creditor matrix, you can dispute it because it should be reflected as IIB (Included In Bankruptcy).

    Good luck!!!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!
