Question Finding People who have filed in your district

Does anyone know how you can get the names of people who have recently filed in your district for personal chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcies particularly those whom have done it pro se. This is so I can contact these folks and get a "feel" for the court, judges, trustees etc. Any ideas?

While its all public information I am not sure people would appreciate being contacted by a complete stranger although I do not recall our phone number being listed anywhere. Why not just ask your questions here?

Because I want to ask people about my district the southern district of new york and things unique to that district particularly regarding the judges and trustees. This district also has 3 subdistricts(Manhattan,White Plains and Poughkeepsie) and things might even be different in each of the offices.

That is very invasive and I doubt strangers will be willing to speak to you. Why not just consult attorneys? They know best how the different trustees function in their district.

I'd agree with the others. You're likely to get a very frosty reception.

Don't misunderstand as we are all here to help. To me it would be a rude attack. BK is tough enough without a phone call quizzing me. Only my opinion. 'Hub

And we ignore all unfamiliar or all 000-000-0000 numbers anyway.

You could still ask questions here... its possible to 'meet' someone from your own area that might be able to help you.

I really hope you aren't contacting people. If you want to get a feel for the district ask an attorney in your area.

Ben 1381, let's put it this way...If I was one of the people you attempted to contact, I would either shred your letter, hang up on you or slam the door in your face. In this day and age, no one likes their privacy invaded and it's bad enough that businesses can glean filing records of those filing BK and send out BK related junk mail. Your idea is the wrong way to go around it if you need information that badly.

The Clerk of the BK Court in your district might have some contact information or names that were given to the Court if people were looking for pro se assistance. Many people volunteer their time, as on this forum.

                        People who know

With all due respect to the other posters (and I do have much respect), I think ben1381 asks a very intelligent question. How often on this forum do people says "depends on your trustee".... district... attorney... etc.
No one knows what you will go through more than people in your district who just did. If you contacted me, I would be more then willing to share my local experiences. Unfortunately, I'm in Wisconsin. Good luck.

It would be in bad taste to contact someone who has filed BK. In any event, last I checked, the BK petition does not ask for a phone number, so about all you could get from PACER is an address.

I seriously doubt you would find anyone willing to talk to you.

BK is what it is; despite some opinions to the contrary, the outcome of a BK is VERY PREDICTABLE if you know what you are doing.
