What to look for in hiring a BK attorney

should they be "interviewed"? What qualities am I looking for ?
What should I be concerned about?
Much thanks for all the support and information I receive on this forum.

You definately want someone who is experienced, especially if you have anything special going on....like business. You need to feel comfortable with the atty. Go with your gut instinct. We met with 3 different atty's. When we met with the last one, we knew she was the one we wanted. Don't jump the gun and hurry and choose, if it takes meeting with 6 different atty's then so be it. Good luck!

I would ask him/her about their success rate in preventing filers from being sentenced into Chapter 13s and being able to file 7s.

You want to shop around at least a little and you want to have a list of questions ready to ask...I don't think anyone can help you with this entirely because so much of it is going to depend on your particular situation and what is important to you.

I did a lot of research on this forum before hunting for an attorney and the more I read, the more questions I found I would have for my attorney. I wrote them down, and when prospective attornies asked me if I had any questions, I whipped the list from my purse and fired away. No, I didn't ask them about their success rate, etc..I had already looked them up on the web and had a feel for their experience. My questions were more about my situation and how specific things might be handled.

But this was actually a good test even though my main goal was to get the questions answered. A couple of lawyers gave me bad vibes and I went with my gut...think I made a really good choice in the one that I picked.

        Good luck to you.

Well, I can't tell you what to look for, as I still haven't found a good one yet.
          Wait, I take that back.
I did find one I was comfortable with and seemed very confidant and competant. But he was way out of my price range.

All the others I have seen so far have been very blah.
Either they seem to know less about BK than I do. (one tried telling me I have to take the means test even though our income is less than half the median)
They want to push us into a CH13 even though we do not have the money to fund one (one even told me I could try to borrow from relatives to make my CH13 payment)
Or they were just way too abrasive, and I wasn't really comfortable talking to them at all.

Guess that might be helpfull as to what to look out for.
          7/01/10 - filed!
