I get that already, but I don't think you are reading my question. I will refrase:

In that case, since they are at Zero Balance would I be better off:
    1) Closing All Amex Cards
    2) Filing for BK
    3) ~10 years later reapplying

In that case Amex would have no "memory" of the BK. Is my theory correct?

That's not what I asked. Please read my question before snapping at me:

In that case, since they are at Zero Balance would I be better off:
      1) Closing All Amex Cards
      2) Filing for BK
      3) ~10 years later reapplying

Since I won't include them in my BK and I won't have any Amex cards am I correct to assume that if I apply ~10 years down the line they'll never known about the BK?

You'll find it difficult to get a definitive answer on this one but I'll try.

Since you are legally required to disclose a previous bankruptcy to a possible creditor (If they ask) regardless of how long it is since you've filed then there is absolutely no guarantee that you will ever again have an AMEX card after bk. It doesn't matter if you've included them in the bk or not.

So in my opinion, the reason that no one has answered your question to your satisfaction is that no one knows for sure.

        I hope this helps.

I have American Express Card for a while, the MEMBER Since listed as 1985, in 2009 I got lay off, followed by my wife also got lay off, unable to paid the A/E bill, skipped couple payments. and the interest rate jumped to 21.99%, attempted many time to call them and asked to lower the interest rate, and explain my unemployed status, they have absolutely no feeling toward their long time customers at all, no feeling on how hard it was when both of us without job, mortgage payment due ( I make sure I make the mortgage payment, fore closure and homeless is not going to happen to my family and kids, and Real Estate Tax due, heating and water bill also increased, remember almost $4.00 per gallon of gas. just a year ago... American Express won’t work with customers, they just want you to pay back, which I understood, I am trying to pay back but only asking for a little help, With Chase and Bank of America Credit cards, they low their interest rate to 2% for me when I call and explain the situation, unemployment just enough to save up to pay the mortgage, and getting by weeks for weeks, so I can still make small payments to Chase and BOA. A/E won't consider at all, they want me to keep up with the min. payment, or they will be force to turn into collection agency, I jointed a debt consolidated company to help me work on settlement with the credit company, I was successfully worked with Bank of America to settle one of my card, they willing to just take 30% of the total debt, great company. While A/E wont talk to the debt council, and filed law suite after me. And they want 100% back.

I am telling my families, my friends, my former co-workers anybody that I know, to close their American Express account. They really do not care about you. They only want your business. And treat you like dirt.

Wondering A/E received any Govt bail out money, which we all help chipped in. Please support the boycott American Express…. Tell all your friends families, everyone. Cut up the A/E go Chase and BOA…. They do the same for A/E claimed working with business.

A/E sends me dun letters AND turned my account over to a collection agency. So I am getting bills from both them and the collection agencies. I find it hilarious and will be truly happy to see them discharged in my BK.

I owed AMEX less than $250 at one point. They had three different collection agencies hounding me until I filed. Now that my previous credit insanity is passed, I wonder why I ever had an AMEX card. Pricey annual fee, stingy rewards program, limited acceptance. And that no credit limit hogwash? That just means you don't know when they will start denying charges. I had them cut me off when I was traveling. I wasn't behind but my current charges were in excess if $11,000 (I traveled for work) and before they would start honoring charges again they wanted to know how I was going to pay, as in, tell us the accounts where you have the money for this. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Yep, AMEX has a pretty special nastiness associated with them. We got rid of them years prior to filing, and even if we were to hit the lottery would never take their piece of plastic again...

Good luck to anyone still having to deal with these b------s.

I have never had American Express so no bad history with them. My company is moving to using them as the corporate card. Will i be able to get a card with them since i dont have any negative history with them (i.e i didnt bk on them)? I wonder what other options i will have if i cant get a corporate card from them, maybe get a secured card for my travel expenses. I dont travel much and do not currently have a corporate card with my company. However i'm hoping this wont stop me from getting promoted.
Promoted? Most people can't get a job and you are worried about a promotion? Good for you!

Anyway, don't make this into a big issue with your employer. Just pay your expenses with your own card and then the expense report will cover it, right?

As a corporate bee myself, I can tell you that it is better to go with the flow in these situations, and if you need to give a reason why you don't have the Amex, just tell them that you got denied and that you are using your own card.

Opening up a can of worms in the corporate world is never a good move...which makes me wonder how the hell I am going to transition out of this phony and silly job that I am currently "stuck" in...lol...

If OP files Ch. 7 as intended, there will be no card of his/hers own for the expenses to be paid with...

                    Good luck.

                      Still looks like a witch!

Anyway, if the OP can't get a card, then use a prepaid debit card or something. There are options all the time, no?

Never give American Express any businese any more

Well, American Express collection hired law firm that won’t talk to my Debt consolidate councilor, and filed law suit against me, the A/E hired law firm won’t respond and return phone calls until the week before that I have to appear in court, make it absolutely no room for us to work out with negotiation, finally 3 days before court day, they came up with a 100% payback installment plan, first a 1000.00 initial payment, and 500 per month until the balance pay off. But still they would not release me from court appearing tomorrow. Tomorrow I will appear in court.

I will continue to ask everyone still have American Express card, please cut it up and close the account, go to your local bank get a different card is way better then being tired up with the A/E leash.
they dont like you, they only like your money.
you are not a customer to them, you are only known to them as someone they loan money out to you.

customer service is for loaning out money only, there is none available when they are trying to collect......
