    Isn't This Strange?

I was going over my credit reports today and the AMEX account I owe on has a completely different account number listed on the credit report than what is on my bills. I'm absolutely positive - I've checked, double checked, triple checked.

So I guess I'll list both account numbers. So strange.

Edited to add that the amount owed on the credit report is correct - just the account number is different.

I agree. Better safe than sorry. I listed my original creditors, then listed the collection agencies as well as their account numbers just to make sure. You can't be too careful.

Danaf, when a credit account is closed, it is often assigned a new number for accounting purposes. In other words, there are actually two accts. This is true even when a credit card is closed down for fraud; good, non-fraudulent transactions are posted to the new account, and fraudulent transactions are posted to the old acct number (which doesn't send statements). That's how they keep it off your bill. It may be (I don't know, I'm only guessing) that the account has been closed for non-payment and assigned a new number for purely accounting purposes, like sending it to a collection agency.

I can't help but think that this is simply an administrative change, but since you haven't filed yet, go ahead and list both acct numbers on your filing; it can't hurt.

This is interesting because I'm at about day 50 after 341 and got a credit report. Everything said included in bk except for American Express and it has 2 completely different account numbers. What should i do?

2confused, if you included Amex in your creditor matrix you should be fine. If you have a PACER acct, look for the BNC Certificate of Notification, which should say that Amex received electronic notification as well as a mail notice of your bk. After your discharge (which should be in a couple weeks, congrats!) you can mail a copy of your discharge and a copy of your creditor matrix to the credit bureau and they will fix it. You might want to check out the oher parts of this site, because there's a lot of good info already posted in regard to your credit report post-bk. Good luck!!!
