    Embarassing issue

I am going to file Chapter 7 in either June or July depending on how my income works out. My questions is this, if they ask for bank statements they are going to see alot of transactions with a telephone dating line. I had an addiction to one of these services for quite some time and it is a large reason in my being broke. I have of course kicked the habit now, but it is rather embarassing and i am afraid i will get grilled over it and im deathly scared about this. What will happen when if the Trustee finds this out? I know it was stupid, but I cannot change the past. I am just worried it will ruin my fresh start. Has anyone else had to deal with any sort of addiction/cash flow problems in their cases?

It is what it is. People spend money foolishly on other things. Take me for example: GAMBLING ! I don't think the Trustee is out there to embarass you - he won't call you out like that. He is more interested if you have disposable income to pay back the creditors. People get into BK for hundreds of reasons. You'll be fine!

Trust me, the Trustee will process your paperwork the same as everyone else. There is a very small chance he/she will ask you specifics about why you filed, but if they do, answer honestly. I was a little embarassed at my 341 because we were all in a huge meeting room and I was afraid everyone would hear an answer to an embarassing question, but after sitting there a while, I realized that we were all in the same boat, in need of relief.

I agree with Catchme, you'll be fine.

Those phone lines are addicting because they are made to be that way. There is no reason to be embarrassed. You got sucked into something that was intended to do just that. My Aunt placed an ad about 7 months ago. Responded to a few and went on a couple of dates. Nothing panned out so she decided to take a breather(health issues). She called to cancel her ad and there has been no response. She has tried to get it removed over and over and over again, Still nothing. The ad still is in the special section of our weekly pennysaver. Now this in itself really is no big deal to her. We have kind of made a joke out of it as the whole family now knows that she is in there. What gets her is that there are probably many responses in her message box that she will never listen to or respond to. At $2.99 a minute these guys are being robbed. These companies make millions of dollars doing this. Place the ad free but charge people to respond.
My point is your not the first and you wont be the last. We all have our own seperate issues as to why we are at this point.

I say CONGRATULATIONS! that you were able to rise above it. You might even be able to help others now who are caught up in these types of things!

thank you guys, you have helped my relax a little bit at least here. I'm in the stressful stage of waiting for my income to fall under the median, and have lawsuits being filed, people coming to my door etc etc. I justhave to make it to June 1st and then I can get started with all this. I honestly can't wait for the process to being. Too many years of struggling, and refusing to admit I was in trouble, when I could of done this years ago. But I digress, thanks again for the support.

There are all kinds of reasons people end up filing for bk.

Believe me, you are not the only person who got into trouble with an addiction or reckless compulsion of some sort--believe me you ain't.

Thank God bk is not just for the people who had "reasonable" reasons for getting into financial trouble. The law, as I understand it, is pretty agnostic about the reasons for your financial trouble.

All the waiting is the hardest part, at least it has been for me. Waiting to file, waiting on the attorney, waiting on the hearing, waiting for the discharge. Lots of time to grow nervous and antsy. Try and keep yourself distracted with healthy pastimes/pursuits. It'll all be over with time. Hang in there.
