Question How much shoul I pay to a bankcruptcy attorney?

    Hi!

I am residing in Washington State. I have visited one bankcruptcy attorney in town and he wants $2000.00 for attorney fee and $299.00 for filing fee.

    1. Does anyone know how long does it take for a bankcruptcy procedure from begining to the end in Washingtion State?

    2. What is the "reasionable" fee for bankcrupt that the lawyer charges in Washington State?

    Thanks!

    1. The average BK 7 should take about 90-120 days.

    2. I can't help you with question number 2 vis-a-vis Washington. My suggestion would be to speak with a few more attorney's. But $2,000 is in the ballpark (near the right field wall ). Keep in mind, it is often the case in BK, that you get what you pay for, if you go with the cheapest attorney, you often get the least quality of service. If you search the forum, you find many threads that discuss how to choose an attorney.

I'm in Virginia and thats about how much I paid too ! Also depends on amount of credit and paperwork that has to be filed. My attorney listed everything w/fees accordingly. The more paperwork and amount of credit the more money!

You might want to have a few more free consultations to get a feel for what fees are average and what type of services you'll get for that fee in your area. It's also a good thing if you have at least a basic rapport with the atty. you hire.

I'm in Louisiana and from $1500 to $2000 is average + filing fee for a straight Chapter 7 (it's more if a business is involved).

Central New York here. $3,500 for a Ch13 - $2,000 up front and $1,500 repaid via the plan through the trustee. Worth every dime!

After reading your other posts, it sounds like you have a somewhat complicated case, so $2,000 is probably a bargain.

We lived in WA when we filed and we paid $1200 but our case was very easy, no asset, Ch 7 and that was 4 years ago.

I paid 800 plus filing fees in NYC. It was cheap because my case was very straight forward, no property, no car, etc.
