    FYI, I didn't choose....

Just so you know, I have no control over the fact that ads appear in my posts.

I imagine they appear in my posts because I have a very high post count.

OMG, what used to be just links to the right of HHM's post is now a huge Chrysler Ad.

              Maybe we're all flipping out.

How is it that some people aren't seeing the ads? Do tell! BTW, I see google ads on HHM's and epiphany's posts.

What do you see in place of the ads. Even if you can't see the ads themselves, usually you will see the blank place holder.

I don't recall how, specifically, you can prevent seeing Internet ads, there are some settings in your browser that you can change, and some anti-malware packages will have a setting that prevents ads from being displayed. However, when you implement those changes, it usually screws up functionality that you want.

Webpage advertising is so ubiquitous, that I barely notice it. For me, ads are like paint on a wall, you see it, but you rarely take notice...the ads are simply part of the environment.

You can't control ads when you go to any website that has them. You can control the "pop up" ads that just come from no where when you are online. You just need to adjust your preferences to eliminate them. What you do need to do as to ads that are geared, as is on here, to your location determined by your ISP is to ensure your spyware and all your other security options are up-to-date and working.

I don't want to mess with the funtionality of the site, so I'll leave well enough alone. I wonder if I should add a disclaimer to my signature about not endorsing any of the ads that appear in my posts.

The ads are a drag. But if I were the owner of this site and saw a way to make a few bucks, I'd do it too. It doesn't really interfere with the site, it's just a bit annoying. But after awhile I just don't see them anymore.

                              Um, well...

I hesitate to say this because I appreciate that this forum survives in large part by ad revenue, but for any technically inclined Windows user here it is:

Right click on the area (white space included) of any ad, and try not to right click on any link. Go to properties. Copy the URL shown, just the main address and not the whole string (for example, "pagead2.googlesyndication.com" without the "http://" or anything after .com). Open your hosts file. Add an entry that assigns that URL to IP address 127.0.0.1. Save hosts file. Clear IE cache. Reload page. If it still appears, delete the cookie and ensure you captured the right URL. If they go away and then come back again days or weeks later, add a new entry for the new URL.

This works for pretty much anything your normal anti-whatever software doesn't catch, even Flash ads if the "Settings" option is enabled. Needless to add, I haven't seen any ads on this site since, like, day 2 I was here.

If you're not technically inclined, don't try it. But if you know what a hosts file is and what it's there for, you should be safe. Have fun!!!
