Acct in Collections

I appreciate all the help I have gotten from people on these boards! I have a question on medical bills.

I have a one that I would like to pay off- $187- that has been sent to collections. If I file bankrupcty and list this account will the hospital that I owe find out I filed or will it stay at the collection agency? Later, when I pay off this account, do I send the payment to the hospital itself or the collection agency?

I guess I'm not familiar with collection agencies, and I don't want the people at the hospital to have to suffer for my stupid money mistakes. Also, I am filing Chapter 7.

If the account is in collections, the hospital is ALREADY suffering form your "stupid money mistakes"...if the account is in collections, that means you ALREADY did not pay the hospital on time and are in default.

No point in paying the account now. Just list the account in your BK and be done with it. There are NO brownie points in the debt game for good intentions.

Like I said, I don't understand collections! I thought the hospital would receive a portion of what I paid. I'll forget about it! One step closer to filing I guess! Thanks for the reply!

The hospital would receive a portion, but who cares at this point. As far as the hospital concerned, you are a deab-beat (note, I said as far as the hospital is concerned). Even if you paid the account, it would not matter.

Thanks, HHM, after your answers to my questions I was beginning to think you thought the same! I'll just make a donation to the hosptial when I can. Appreciate the advice!!! All these little worries are getting to me I think!
