I started out with the intention to file pro se.

I had most everything gathered when I found this site. I was concerned though that I'd make a mistake. I'm kinda a worry wort anyway. I decided it was better to hire a lawyer for the peace of mind. So I hired a lawyer. It was very worth it. They said I was the most prepared of anyone they'd ever seen.

for all the huge mistakes and errors on the documents that i found only to get them back with most of the mistakes still there. the four day wait only to get a vague answer to a question. a means test that took me a hour or two to complete "only needed to fill out the first part". i tweaked the figures I & J forums myself and will cut my monthly payment by $80. "i thought this is what the lawyer is payed to do". its costing me $2600 for their services.

If it all gos well it will be worth every penny. after 4-5 years of financial hell do not have the mindset to tackle filing a chap.13 on my own.

this site and it members have helped me in many ways.

Sorry to hear your experience was so bad, mine was very professional.

WOW coma & systemslt - thanks for sharing your situations, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm concerned about regarding attorneys... that my case will get handled badly in one way or another..

My salary is 71% of the median so it seems like that should be fine... I'm now in the process of finding WHICH forms I need and getting them all together. It's tedious but I'm starting to feel pretty confident I can manage it. <crossing fingers>
          CC & collections... $13,000
          Car loan outstanding... $9-10,000
          Stafford loans... $25,000
Light at the end of the tunnel... priceless
