    How long do I have?

Hi again. I was saving money for the BK. I nearly got to the right amount to pay the lawyer.

Over the past few days I have really been concentrating on looking at the housing market as far as price, convenience for someone without a car, and whether they will take my pets.

I have come to the conclusion that I must keep the house while my credit is in the tank. There is precious little that will suit me right now. I don't think I want to play Russian roulette with possibly being homeless with small animals with winter coming (when I would be moving out).

In order to get out of my arrears I need last months and this months payment. That pretty much does away with the money I saved for the lawyer.

Since I have paid most of my backlog of bills (electric, gas, etc,) and have stopped paying the car, I will have some money to save for the lawyer.

So, from the time I started to give my paperwork to the lawyer till the time I pay and actually file, is there a time-frame I must be within? I wanted to get it done at the beginning of next month, but now I feel I should bail out the house and try to start saving again.

My attorney is letting me stretch it out for 18 months to maximize BK exemptions. I know several folks have reported going 6-12 months from the time they retained their attorney until they filed.

I assume you wouldn't reaffirm the mortgage to allow maximum flexibility later.

Once you get through your BK and you, the pets are all happy, less stressed can you change your avatar. That thing is shall we say nasty.

So don't reaffirm but continue to pay?

I was just thinking last night that in 2 years lots of folks would be looking for small more inexpensive houses. I might sell it the normal way.

Yes. That's what HHM and others are recommending. You have to be current and stay current when you file. There's a number of threads discussing this.
