We haven't filed for BK but are planning in the next month or so. Just need to get all our ducks in a row. Yesterday the calls just stopped. Ater months of incessant phone calls from cc's and collections agencies, the phone only rang twice yesterday. Any reason for that? Is is the calm before the storm? It has been just over 6 months since last paying on my cc's. Most have gone to charge offs. We've had our share of nasty collection calls- they even called our neighbors! But now its so quiet. Just wondered if anyone had a thought!

We went through highs and lows in the phone calls. We had weeks were we would get 15+ a day and then weeks were we got nothging. Typically it corresponded to sending the debt to the next level of collections.
If you are filing soon, I wouldn't worry to much. Odds are, you will bet the creditors to the court house if they are deciding to sue you.

Maybe they're all at a convention in Vegas running up thier credit cards on gambling and adult entertainment. It's not what we have in our lives, but who we have in our lives and the quality of those relationships.

The calls stopped because they are switching you to a different status within their systems....be it moving from internal to external collections, selling the debt or suing you. If this is the first time the calls stopped, I'd say that they aren't at the point where they will sue YET, they are just moving your status in their system. Don't sweat it b/c they will start back up in a few days inevitably.11/14/07 -filed C7 12/04/07 -case pulled for random audit.12/18/07 -341 held: Asset case due to engagement ring & tax return.02/19/08 - US trustee files motion to extend. 04/02/08- changed back to NO ASSET! I get my ring back and get to keep my tax return! :clapping: 04/28/08 -DISCHARGED!!! :yahoo::yahoo: 05/07/08 - CLOSED!!!

I am so glad to have the GrandCentral phone. I remember getting TONS of nasty phone calls back in the early 1990's from that other recession with George Bush, Sr. running the show.
Now I don't get any calls. For one thing, we have changed our phone #'s like 5 to 7 times since we started establishing credit. We moved and I don't think we updated the phone #. So the person who has my old phone # is gonna get a ton of calls.
I've been updating all of our creditors with the new GrandCentral #. I love this thing so that people can still reach me, but if it gets to the point where they are rude and annoying, I log into the web site and either click "block" or "spam" and then my phone doesn't even ring when they call. The thing I like about GrandCentral phone number the most is that I can still give out my same phone # to a ton of people without having to change my number all from a few bad people. Family and friends can still reach me but nasty collection agencies can't since the phone system acts just like having a butler. I think you can even set it up to block numbers that don't have any Caller ID listed.

Calls
Yeah, that does suck. I remember a long time back somebody using their AMEX and took a trip to Hawaii. Somebody from AMEX called after they did the BK and left a message yelling, "Hope you enjoyed your vacation" and slammed down the phone.
This is why I am so glad to have the Grand Central. We do not have long distance on our home phone. With Grand Central I have all of the numbers in the address book. I click "call" next to the person I want to call and instead of our real house phone showing up on the caller ID, the Grand Central number shows instead. Grand Central calls my house first after I click "call" on the web page. Then it 3-ways a call to the person I call whether it be a friend, relative or returning a call to a collection agency who has Caller ID... and from what I can tell, many collection agencies have Caller ID and use it! I know when I use Grand Central to call HSBC, they recognize my phone # on their Caller ID and automatically log into my account based on the number I am calling from.
So when worst comes to worst and creditors and collection agencies start flooding us with calls, I will simply drop all of their calls to voice mail. My health is tanking and I can't take the stress of having screaming matches with collection agencies any longer. We did this for a collection agency who started calling us recently about a repo I had back in 2003 to Kia. I was married back then and became evicted and my unemployment ran out. I had to move in with my sister since I was homeless. Capital One and tons of other people started hounding me and sending me nasty-grams. I had no power to do nothing back then since it was the DOT COM fallout.
A friend of mine told me the stock market is tanking. I just checked MSN.com and see the stock market tanked another 100 points yesterday from the gloom and doom news.
That's more proof to why I can't find a job. I will need to write long letters explaining my situation to all of my creditors. Then I will go to like 5 news sources showing them all of these web pages and include printouts to go with my letters so they know it's just not me.

Thanks
I need it mostly because we do not have long distance. I get free long distance using their service because they do a 3-way call. They call your house and then they call the number you wanted to call, all the while, not showing your real phone #.
Also, if somebody wants to reach me, it's also fantastic. If I am on the road, the same number reaches my cellphone. When I am home and the cellphone is out of range, the same number calls my house phone. And then if the call was a telemarketer or collection agency, I simply log into the web site and block their calls by giving them the simulated disconnect tone or it can go straight to voice mail... all silently without disturbing me at dinner time, etc. It's a real shame that the phone companies don't offer this service.

I was going to ask this same question.
We had been getting 24 calls a day from the same number on our caller ID (but no messages left on the phone answering machine) and for the past week the phone has not rung at all. It's been just about 7 months we have not paid any CC's so I am figuring they must be sending these out for collections or getting ready to sue.
We are ready top file as soon as we get our tax refund and get it spent or when the summons comes-whichever is first.
It's almost more stressful wondering what the CC companies are upto.

When Wells Fargo repo'd my other car in the beginning of 2007, they sent the $10,000+ to a collection agency. The collection agency wrote to me demanding the money. I sent my letter to them and have never heard a peep ever since. Right now it's cheaper to buy a $.41 cent stamp (which I have a bunch of those already) than it is to pay the BK Lawyer $1600 here in my town.
I don't want the letter here in public. If you want to send me a private message with your email address, I will send you the Word doc I use. All you have to do is fill in the information in the "[" and "]" with your own and mail it off. This can help people as a temporary solution until it's finally time to do the bankruptcy.
If people are calling you on the phone, you have to ask for the name of the company, the person, the address and the account #. Act as if you were going to make the payment to the collection agency. Then you can also keep this information on record when you file the bankruptcy. That's what I've been doing. As of a couple days ago, I am now building a spreedsheet with all of the information. I read that Bankruptcy PDF that somebody here posted and am trying to slowly gather all of the information for the bankruptcy lawyer so he has everything he needs as soon as I walk in the door. Then I guess I will have to pay $400/mo. until he gets all of the payments to finally file.
A lot of people on here have posted great solutions to many of my problems.
