Ep, actually your filing fees and the assets recovered by the trustees more than pay for the bk court system, which is why trustees (depending on chapter) get to keep everything over x% depending on the dollar amount of what they recover. So not even that is reason to rail against bk'ers. I think some people just learn to measure themselves by the appearance of the people around them instead of something more real. The end result is that when someone else rises they are insanely jealous, and someone else falls they're insanely vindictive: they have succeeded in making it all about themselves. Pfft. I think the only reason it doesn't piss me off so much anymore is because I know it cannot be changed. I rather liked your tactless post.

Speaking of which, Flamingo, I always like what you write... not sure what's going on there, but I'm glad you write what you write.
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

Next time go out for pizza too! Life goes on after bankruptcy. What would they like you to? Sit in a dark room with a magazine you found on the bus? Noone is $40.00 away from fixing their life. If they were then more hookers would be doing better. Also, this is just the internet. You owe no answers or explanations to anybody especially someone you don't even know and might not even be real. Opinions are like butts ... everyone has one. You did what was best for your family. Keep faith in knowing you did that.

Don't let them shame you into a bad day! $40 is just that - $40. It's not going to rescue you from bk but it did provide a wonderful memory for your daughter.

My own father was really hurtful this past Christmas and I didn't talk to him for a month. We just moved into a new townhouse (rental) and I mentioned that I was buying our little girl a new bedroom set - mind you, not furniture. It was a pop up Hamper, a lamp, a pop up toy basket, some removable wall stickers and a toddler bedding set in her FAVORITE character. All told, I spent $125 on it - including all the shipping. Since there is another baby on the way, I packed away her old "baby" set and am saving it for #2. He said, "I thought you were filing for bankruptcy so where did you get the cash to do that". I was furious! My husband and I swung it by not getting each other what we wanted and spent the cash on her instead - that's how. This comment after he called me on Thanksgiving and asked me if my turkey was in the oven and when I replied, "No, we are going over to a friends' house for Thanksgiving", he says, "Oh, you can't even afford to buy a damn turkey"! Nooooooo, I just thought since our family didn't see fit to visit us for the holidays that I would spend it with some friends. idiot...

So, screw what anyone says, whether they are family or friends. You need some enjoyment every once in a while. My parents have been in debt all my life and have relatively little to no retirement and a measly $2000 in savings. They don't pay rent, mortgage, electric, cable, parking, or water because my dad's job covers all that. They spent my college savings account on a new car when I was 13 and when college time rolled around, they just didn't pay my tuition and I got sent to collections for $20,000 in back payments (at 19 years old) and I had to drop out. I eventually went back to a state school and graduated on my own with no help from them. Both my brothers chose not to go to school. My parents own nothing of value - no property, investment accounts, etc. Between them, they make $150K a year. So what's their excuse for being short every paycheck? People are so quick to judge that it makes me sick.

The main thing they state they abhor about people filing BK is that people that file BK cause them higher retail prices since the creditors have to somehow cover their losses, although the creditors write off the losses on their corporate taxes and funds are always budgeted for yearly losses. It's best to avoid those forums but the above reasoning is true - any loss by a creditor/lender creates higher prices - fraud, shoplifting, etc. do the same.

I agree with you as to this forum but I've been bullied on here recently just for posting some factual information. Not all people like facts or the truth and not everyone is a happy camper on here but then everyone has bad days! But there is much more experience and good information on here than other sites.
            Flamingo,

I think I know who you are referring to. She comes on here now and again, but.......

I remember her from another forum and when I first filed bankruptcy 3 years ago, she responded to one of my posts and was so nasty and condescending. I am sorry that she found this forum. You feel bad enough when you first file, not to say nothing about not knowing the entire bankruptcy process. I felt her comments were totally inappropriate. Now that I am "seasoned", lol, I could care less what she says, but to someone new, her comments could be devastating.

            Flamingo, you're ok. Keep posting.

OH BROTHER!!! $40, boy you could have invested that into your savings and made millions..LOL!!!
What a dungbeetle, but I tell ya I have close friends and family that acted like that.
You are entitled to enjoy life, that why many trustees allow recreation spending!! Its not like you bought your kids a Wii, a Hollister clothing wardrobe and a go cart in a week.
We went to a movie last weekend I I heard all about it, and I am post BK. OHHH, a movie....sheez I did not even eat popcorn!
