my friend just went through a divorce and got stuck with the auto loan $15000 car worth $12000....
they owe together $42000,on unfinished house.
her in laws are suiing her for $18500....find out feb 28th.

the 2 acres the house is on has been in her family for generations... she would do almost anything to keep the land..

she works fulltime $10 and hour....isn't behind on any payments.
    any ideas help app.

Rather, I have a hard time understanding what dog the in-laws have in this race. That, and a great deal of what she should do depends entirely on what she wants to do with the house and what stake the ex has in that debt. Filing bk may NOT be in her best interest. It seems to me that what you really need is the advice of a *competent* real estate atty, because without the house and associated debt she's not behind on anything and may well be able to handle her own post-divorce debt.

Others are free to disagree, but I think her primary problem (post-divorce but pre-judgement from in-laws) is real estate: keeping the land. A good real estate attorney can help her with that better *right now* than a bk atty, I think. Also, waiting to file bk is not going to make any difference at all UNTIL the in-laws actually get a judgement; filing them may well delay or even prevent them from collecting, depending on how it's all handled. But that's if and when; right now, real estate atty.

I wish your friend all the best!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!
