    Safety Deposit Boxes

Does anyone have any ideas if a trustee would want to know what we have if we had a safety deposit box? Is this something we have to disclose of our own will?

Yes, Form 7 (Stmt of Financial Affairs) specifically asks that question about whether you have a safety deposit box and where it is, and of course any valuables the box contained you would list on Schedule B (and hopefully C, under exemptions).
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

Ok a dangerous question. If you don't mention the safety deposit box, how does the Trustee even know it is there?

Isn't a lot of trustee searches driven by your SSN?

I had a box, but closed it before I filed. I had my passport, birth cert, and SSN card in there anyway. My attorney didn't mention it on my filing either.
