And what is Chapter 11 all about?

    Just curious.

Chapter 12 bankruptcy does exist - that's for family farmers.

As for the other missing numbers....well....remember the government is involved....do you really expect this to be logical???

I'm not sure, but I think the CIA was involved in their disappearance.

The chapters are numbered as they appear in Title 11 of the US Code, which handles Bankruptcy. Several chapters are skipped, possibly for future usage.

Chapter 1 is "General Provisions" of bankruptcy.

                  Chapter 3 is "Case Administration".

Chapter 7 is "Liquidation", as we all know.

Chapter 9 is "Adjustments of Debts of a Municipality" which is a reorganization bankruptcy sort of like a Chapter 11 or 13, but is only available for municipalities.

Chapter 11 is "Reorganization" which is mainly used for businesses.

Chapter 12 is "Adjustment of Debts of a Family Farmer with Regular Annual Income", which is only available for farmers.

Chapter 13 is "Adjustment of Debts of an Individual with Regular Income", as we all know.

Chapter 15 is "Cross-border Insolvency", which had to do with international jurisdiction, since bankruptcies in one country can involve assets in a different country. I'm seeing it as being listed as repealed, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

Do yourself a favor. Check everything I say with a bankruptcy attorney. Most attorneys will even provide a free initial consultation. In fact, it's your life, so check everything anyone says (including your attorney) for yourself!
