Filed Yesterday - Don't know whether to be relieved or worried now...

I think my title says it all. I'm in a state of the unknown right now (not a place a lot of us like to be) so I guess you could say I feel, uneasy.

Yesterday was an awful day all around. We have been having some electrical issues with our house, the dryer was sparking and it smelled like electrical wires burning. Then, two nights ago we had a surge and it blew 2 baby monitors, a radio, a humidifier, a box fan and 2 surge protectors. The electrician told us that to fix it, it will be $2300 (I won't go into all that is wrong here b/c it will take forever to explain!!) We are looking at other options to fix it right now but man, so NOT the news I needed to get on the day I filed Chapter 7. My cell phone got water damage from my tears because I was crying after my husband told me about the electrical bill. To get that fixed is $50 b/c I'll have to file an insurance claim!!

What really hurts right now is there goes my kids Christmas gifts (and we only planned to spend $50 on each child - we have 4 and the baby - her first birthday is 2 days after Xmas!) Man, when it rains it pours! I think that's what made me the most sad.

Someone please tell me it will get better.

Definitely check with some toy programs as suggested above. We have alot of them in our area for kids. I already warned my kids that it is going to be lean for the holidays, but they are older (my baby is 14) so they understand. I told them that I'd make it up to them later.

Things like this always happen to me too. I had planned to see the lawyer this week because we were served a summons from Chase that I've been nervous about. But then my father was rushed to the hospital last week with cardiac problems and he just got back out today. I sent an answer that sounded like I'm a complete idiot to the court myself regarding the summons to try to buy some time. I'll probably just end up with a judgement instead! When I woke up this morning, the electric company had tacked a big neon pink 72 hour shut off notice on my front door. I had meant to pay it, but with the family crisis, I had forgotten. I'm sure all my neighbors saw it! I had planned to list a bunch of items on eBay, but was unable to list anything with the crisis and I'm behind on shipping last weeks orders. They have since released my father from the hospital today but he has to have many of tests next week and we're worried that they will suggest a heart surgery (he's already had one 12 years ago). It just seems like nothing happy ever happens anymore, just stress, car breakdowns, family illnesses, huge unexpected bills. One of the dogs has eye problems and it looks like another large vet bill is going to occur soon as well. Our other dog is due for her rabies shot and I never get out of the vet's office w/o spending $250. They like to do alot of routine maintenence whenever I bring one of them in and heartworm meds, ect and I feel like a neglectful dog owner if I don't buy all that stuff. I've got to find a less expensive vet. We used to have a great one who only charged like $50 for checkup/shots but he retired several years ago.

I know exactly how you feel, just when you start to feel happy something else happens. But you should be a little happy today because you are filed now! Now you can start to heal. I look so forward to the day that I am filed.

I'm so sorry to hear about the electrical problems, but happy to hear that you filed.

The cell phone may be fine once the tears dry up. The same thing happened to me once (mine had been dropped in a puddle of water and starting working a week later once it dried out) Give it a few days before you file the claim.

Thanks guys. I'm doing a little better today. I have a friend that is a retired electrician. I haven't talked with him in awhile b/c we lost touch but I decided I would throw my embarrassment of losing touch out the window and call him. He's coming on Saturday to look at the problem. I feel so guilty too b/c I now live an hour and a half away from him so for him to come and do this is a big deal for him. With gas prices being what they are, I feel so guilty! I guess he wouldn't come if he didn't want to. He could have said No right?

pehaps you could bake him something to take home with him as a thank you for him. Or buy him one of those 20.00 gas cards at a local station. Hopefully he can fix your problem for the cost of parts.

Some guys just like to help damsels in distress. Makes them feel good. You should try to cover his out of pocket expense....gas.
