    Chiropractor - preferential payment?

I've been going to the chiropractor since the summer for back and knee problems and it runs about $250 each month. I included it in my expenses and it also shows on my bank statement each month since I use my debit card.

Would this be deemed a preferential payment? I never thought about it possibly being one but just wanted to make sure.

This is a medical expense that you are paying at the time of service, correct? If that is correct then you are fine. Unless you are paying off an old bill then it would not be a preferential payment.

I've been paying them at the end of each month rather than the day of each visit. Does that matter? But no, it's the payment for the current month and not an old bill.

No, it is not a preferential payment. It is a medical expense.

Whether the trustee will accept it as a legitimate expense is another question.

And how do I determine that?

I am half joking...but given the amount and regularity of the expense, the trustee could conceivably want to see some documentation regarding the problem requiring such treatment.

But I doubt the trustee will question the expense (but you should be prepared to justify it).

Thanks! I emailed my attorney about it and am waiting to hear back.

I started going to one here in Chicago back in July once I finally got health insurance. I grew up in Davenport, Iowa which is where it was invented so I've seen one all my life. In July, I messed up my back/shoulder doing a lift wrong during a workout and was in pain from that.

Then I kept going from September to now as I've been doing a play where I had to do stage combat. It required me to do flips and I never quite perfected them and landed wrong on my back/hip quite a few times. Of course, he wanted me to see him three times a week but I've been able to suffice with just once a week.

I'm under the median by a few thousand dollars but am only about -$1.60 on my schedules. Of course, with gas prices going up and Mayor Daley getting his massive tax increase passed here in Chicago last night, living here is going to get a lot more expensive. A chiro bill is going to be the least of my worries.

It won't be a preferential for sure...but HHM is right you could be asked for justification. But I wouldn't see a problems with it. Hope you feel better.
