We were at minimums being 3/4ths of take home. We were paying rent and mortgage, plus utilities for 2 homes. Having to pay a guy to mow our house out of state. $200 a pop as it was an acreage property. Plus all routine costs to live.

We kept thinking if we could just sell the house. If we could just sell the house.

And then our savings ran out.

Personally, I'd skip over the DMP agencies and go straight to BK attnys. Consult with several. You want a good attny who'll get you a comfortable budget to live with. In 5 years, you'll be done. The remaining unsecureds will be Discharged, and you can move forward with your lives.

Talk to your employers if the company/Gov't CC's are necessary for your jobs. Most likely, your employers have to make special arrangements for other employees. You aren't the first people to get into financial woes. Won't be the last either.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

Marstoad, in case it helps, I went on the PACER website (there are stickies here on the site on how to do that) and researched Ch 13 filings in my area for the past few months. I picked a couple of attorneys who filed a lot of Ch 13's. One didn't return my call, so I went with another. I was very impressed with the consultation with her and retained her to file for me. PACER charges a per-page charge, but I figure it was $20 well spent. Good luck to you. Five years is going to pass one way or the other, and going the Ch 13 route, in five years you'll be in better shape than you will if you don't file Ch 13.
