    Hey Bandit!

I got A's in Econ in college, so listen up!

    (just kidding)
About the "listen up," not the A's. LOL

I follow the small biz trends like white on rice. I totally agree about the service, repair and parts business. It is cheaper to throw the thing out these days instead of repairing them.

Location has a lot to do with the trends, too. For instance, in the northeast, businesses that tote quality have an excellent success rate. Pizza, car mechanics, sub shops, beauty parlors, dog grooming shops, bakeries, etc. still doing well. There will always be that niche market in a northeastern town.

    Service businesses doing well also.

The small business failure rate is also skewed. For instance, if a small business is bought out or owner retires, it goes into the "closed" category.

But, times they are a'changing Bob, so you have to choose a relevant small business. Would you open a horseshoeing business? Would you open a microwave repair shop when you can get a new one at Walmart for 35. bucks?

There are so many opportunities for small businesses these days and that is not even taking into account the internet business. And....I am not talking about doing EBay or scamming.

Sorry for the rant Bandit, but as you can tell I am a small business fanatic, lol. I think I have been to the mall 5 times in my lifetime and I am in my 50s. I will always buy from the local business if I can.

And, thank you for the kindest regards. I can use all the kind regards I can get these days!

P.S. I would not open up a hardware store, either.

We aren't going to see any major over haul of the BK Code in the foreseeable future.

The New Law was in the works during the 2nd Session of Congress in 1996. That means Congress was working on BK Reform during President Clinton's administration.

The last over haul signed into Law prior to 2005,................ 1978.
      Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
      Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
      Closed - 04/2007

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

I was thinking about starting up a mini putt putt golf course or a store renting videos & CD like Blockbuster,or a hardware store making keys
        Just teasing.

Oh, I know. School book economics is one thing but when you add business with wealth & greed, you can pretty much throw out the school book.

I follow the small biz trends like white on rice. I totally agree about the service, repair and parts business. It is cheaper to throw the thing out these days instead of repairing them.

I agree there are certain locations for specific business that will always do well. Some of those things you listed are not doing so well here. There might be one out of those categories in each village still holing on.
I keep seeing many car lots & too many empty strip malls trying to lease space where no one is moving in. There are a few old timers left. I do believe much is done online these day, but someone still has to move the stock.

        Service businesses doing well also.
Maybe, if they don't have to drive very far (gas prices) & the contactor doing the repair is doing it under warranty.

The small business failure rate is also skewed. For instance, if a small business is bought out or owner retires, it goes into the "closed" category.
Would you have time to elaborate a little on this?

But, times they are a'changing Bob, so you have to choose a relevant small business. Would you open a horseshoeing business? Would you open a microwave repair shop when you can get a new one at Walmart for 35. bucks?
I was thinking a pencil store. just kidding. Actually there is a new trend here with ice cream & cupcakes & they are jamming, at least the first year they were. Cupcakes are back in!!! LOL!

Things are changing. So fast. Who can really keep up with all the gadgets? Are all the gadgets going to make it a better place or complicate things? We will have to see.

There are so many opportunities for small businesses these days and that is not even taking into account the internet business. And....I am not talking about doing EBay or scamming.

Yes I can tell you watch the markets. We are about the same age. I watch so many newbies come online to try & knock my cousins business out of the wall (who I work for) & they all go running like puppies in a couple of weeks way down to the 4th & 5th pages. We also have things like Amazon, Tiger Direct, 'SURE stores" a lot of deception....very difficult to compete.

And, thank you for the kindest regards. I can use all the kind regards I can get these days!
Welcome, B12. I have enjoyed reading your posts. It is nice to talk about something different from the general BK.

You don't want to make keys and sell bolts & screws? I know the old locksmiths are still doing very well & they get about 80 to 100 an hour. Lots of trucks running around. I just hope OnStar & things like that do not put them out of business.

Honestly, I think the states will continue to fall (not fall as in fail) but fall in economics & business as other countries like China & India rise that will level out the worlds wealth & the good ol USA middle & lower class will definately keep taking pay cuts.
I watch a lot of Lou Dobbs, He resonates with me... can you tell?
Write back when you can, B12
