Our neighbor's don't know, but we moved before we filed, so that's not an issue for us. Our family does and while disappointed, they were very diplomatic about expressing that disappointment. My friends, cyber ones anyway (they're the only ones that know about it), were much for vocal in expressing their disappointment, but it mostly came from the fact they didn't understand the whole process.

We told no one for it is not their business, and we were the ones who got ourselves into this mess so we never shared with anyone about our money troubles.

My Close Friends and my BK

Talk about surprised, the few close friends that I have were so shocked and started offering help like money, food and prayers and advice. It was really so overwhelming. I think they were more sadder for me than I was. But its nice to know that they felt that way and wanted to help, however my daughter was not so friendly. That will teach me to never tell children what you are doing unless it directly effects them. Since we all live together and share everything, it wasn,t a question so much of it causing her any type of financial ruin, it was more like "mom, how in the world did you get yourself in this mess"?.

She went on and on about how people should never live beyond their means and I should have been more careful. Now what she does not realize is that had she and her kids not moved in with me after the childrens father ran off, I would not be in this mess and of course when this happened she had no job, no savings and no place to live with twins no doubt. Everybody landed on me and of course the kids needed food, clothing, shelter, school transportation, not to mention books, supplies and all of that.

Because I am a person who rarely these days allow others to get me to the point of extreme anger, I simply ignored her and kept on with the filing of my paperwork for the lawyer. I took a vacation from my job and did what I needed to do. People can really be insensitive sometimes when they are either related to you or close to you.

Not that we go around broadcasting it or anything, but we don't really care who knows.

All our family knows and have been very supportive. Close personal friends know. Same thing. Supportive. No one who's learned about our BK has been rude, or disappointed, or condescending.

If someone finds out and they don't like it,.......... Well that's their problem. Not mine.

            Ayuh.

I hope you listed ALL of your expenses on your petition. You have time to amend it, if not.

Children are cruel because they are clueless. Don't worry about their 'not quite ripe' judgments right now.

That goes for other Clueless People, as well.

Good for you! I would have told her exactly how I got into this and that she was part of that reason if she talked to me that way. Thats just me though. Sounds like you have the patience of Job. S&T

After much thought, I decided against wearing my "Scarlet B" t-shirt out in public....so tacky! LOL!

Seriously, my three sisters and a few close friends of mine know we filed. All of them have been very understanding. They had lots of questions too.

My parents passed away a few years ago, but I would have told my mom if she was still with us. My husband decided not to tell a soul in his family or any of his friends.

I think we would all be shocked if for just one day, every person in America who ever filed bankruptcy wore their 'scarlet B' out for everyone to see. It would be a sea of red and it's growing.....

My mother knows bcause we live under the same roof. My husbands brother & sister know because we tried to borrow $ from them before we went to last resort.
Two of my sisters know, because they are both deep in debt and I fear if they dont change they will be on this forum soon too.
A few friends from my bible study....they MOSTLY have been great.
Nobody else knows. I can say the ones that dont know, friends and family would be very judgemental and harsh.
I think many know we are in trouble because our lives have been very reclusive; we never go out and socialize with the crowd around here anymore. We cant. These folks are floating in loot. My kids are suffering the worst.
After this is said and done our plan is to save everything we can and move to a lower income/blue collar area we fit in.

My boss has been very understanding and allowed me the day off for my 341, was very helpful in getting copies of my paystubs I didn't have etc.

My coworkers have been very understanding, two of them have previously filed bankruptcy as well.

My family knows. Mom and dad ask me how its going from time to time. My brother asks as well. They have been real supportive. I'm not sure if anyone has told grandma......

My friends know and some of them have cut back recently themselves to stay out of bankruptcy. Though I think one of them will hit it in another year or two unless something drastically changes. They've been supportive.

Folks at church are very supportive. Most of my friends there know that I'm in bankruptcy. Some of them have had to do it before as well.

I don't know .. I gave up checking pacer after a $30 bill. I'm assuming it got lost in a pile of paperwork on the clerks desk. I soppose I will bug my attorney to look into it.

Only three people know other than my attorney's office....my son, my friend who drove me to my hearing, and my boss. I chose not to tell many people because for the past few years while contemplating bankruptcy I bought into the "stigma" of it and was terrified for people to know about my financial situation. I was so ashamed. Now I wouldn't care so much but it's really nobody's business so I just don't confide in anyone about it. No real need to.

BTW, I'm new to the forum, but I have been lurking and reading for a very long time. I have learned SO much here and have gotten so much support and kindness even though I was invisible! This is such a wonderful site!

Thank you to everyone. Now I will start contributing!
