    Habits?

Can I list bad habits as expenses when calculating my disposable income for a chapter 13? Like my crack habit, for example. Ok, not funny.
But I am wondering about smokers...I quit awhile ago, but I do still buy nicotine gum and I also buy alcohol quite often. Can I list these as expenses or should I even bother? I think I could get the nic gum by as a medical expense perhaps, but I doubt I could slide the booze through.

    Nope!

BUT You can add them in say, your grocery or household expenses like paper towels maybe? They wont even let you add in dog food most of the time, so ciggies & booze is a def no...
Good job on quitting smoking, my husband did as well. He quit cold turkey when we barely could buy food months back. Its tough, but worth it.
(Hubby gained thirty pounds since then though!! His new vice became food, as he barely ate before. He would just smoke and drink coffee Now he eats.) Sometimes the bad situations can bring good, like healthier habits.

Cigarettes really depends on where you file.

I've seen Cigs expenses in cases on PACER for our area. But I've read about other Courts that disallow costs for smokes.

So it's gonna depend on the area of the country where you're filing and probably even the Trustee you draw whether or not cigarettes will get thru. Attnys in your area will know how to advise you accordingly.

I can honestly say I've never seen anyone claim beverage alcohol, beer, or wine. Probably a taboo that people hide in their groceries expense.

I would say the gum or the patch would count as medical expenses!! Your doc can even write a letter stating your are required to stop smoking for health reasons.
