    Applying for Student Loans?

Just a question if anyone knows...

I know you shouldn't apply for credit during a bankruptcy for obvious reasons and believe me I don't want to see a credit card for a looooong time. But is there any restriction on applying for a federal student loan after your 341?

I think you are ok to apply, technically, what you are doing is applying for "financial aid".

To clarify are we talking about filling out your FASA, filling out a loan application for a federal loan such as stanford or perkins, or filling out an application for a college loan from a bank or credit union after exhasting federal loan options?

        Thank you for the info.

Yes, JollyG... federal loans, filling out FAFSA. If I don't receive aid I will not go private loan route. I will just wait or try to pay as I go when we save.

It's all right to fill out the FAFSA, and I am sur eyou will get the student loans. I just got a couple and they went through without a problem. They even gave my credit score a bump up from 576 or so to 600.

From my own experiences, I was eligible for and was awarded student loans to finish my master's after my bk c7.

Thanks for all of the info! Everyone on here is always so helpful. One more Q. Then do you think I should wait until after the 341 to apply or does it not matter? My 341 is in a week and 2 days. Thanks again.

I also just recently spoke to my attorney who said it was ok to apply for financial aid and even to accept a student loan. I was only offered a unsubsidized loan and the attorney said that was perfectly fine.

                Good luck in school!

Federal student loans are never denied because of credit history. Unless you have defaulted on your payments on student loans, then you just ask how much you can pay to catch up to get them again, very simple.
