Getting a PO Box for security?

I'm seriously considering renting a PO Box for security, since I am anticipating MANY offers coming our way after discharge. I do not want to take any chances with our credit and worry about the mail sitting in the mailbox all day until we get home from work. Yes, it is a crime to mess with the mail, but that doesn't stop people! I really don't want the inconvenience of going to the post office to get our mail, but I also worry that others may be getting private information from our box (I am not in a really great neighborhood... hoping to change that soon!). Anyway, what do you all think about this idea? A bit too far? Or a good idea for protecting credit that we are so desperately trying to salvage?

I've always had a PO BOX forever, I never like receiving mail EXACTLY where I live. Sure its a bit pricey (I pay $200 a year for one). But I love the convenience of receiving anything I order off the web and not having to worry about someone stealing my precious purchases if the delivery man decides to leave at the door. Even when I applied for credit I've always given my PO BOX as my living address, so no chance of collectors ever harrassing me at home. AND I know my mail won't get stolen for the most part. ITS GREAT !

We use the UPS Store~Boxes Etc. Its 120.00 a year. But it has alot of perks.
Its secure~ our local driver is to shady sometimes we never get our mail cos he returns to sender unknown addy at our home no less.

You get an actual street address~ I know this is important with the new 911 laws and credit card companies who require a home addy instead of a PO Box.

Free Forwarding~If you go out of town on vacation etc. They will collect your mail and once a week forward it to you where ever you are.

Call Ahead~If I just want to know what is in my mail if it is worth the drive over they will tell me what is in my box.

Package Notification~They call me when I get a package.

Certified Mail Service~They sign all my certified packages and notify me I have important mail.

Postal Service~Not only do they provide all these perks but you can walk in anytime and not have to wait in those hideous long lines like you do at the post office and get stamps, mail letters, packages, they carry boxes, packing supplies, they will even box up your product pack it for you and ship it.

Secure Mail Pickup~I know for years and years I used to have a PO BOX and sometimes I didn't get to go check my mail till late. And I always used to be scared when I went in someone would be lurking round the corner. With these people I have a key to the front door. So, no one is inside the building. I open the door it locks behind me. I go in check my mail and lock the door on my way out.

These guys are great! Well worth the 10.00 a month!

PO Boxes are, more or less a safer method of receiving sensitive mail, but even that depends on the clerk who sorts out the mail. I've had a PO box for over a year now, but almost on a daily basis find other peoples' mail in my box..
Once one of my credit card bills did not arrive. Fortunately for me, nothing ever happened regarding ID theft, so whoever received my bill must have destroyed it.
