Would SHE bring it up?
Would you?
It IS a public place, sort of, but usually so full of people you would be hard pressed to see someone you know.
And you could always say, "No, the triple ended sex contraption is for my COUSIN".
Eh, I mean, "Oops, wrong room. Which way to the men's room?"

bankruptcy is public info. My 341 was in a large room with other people there as well. However, there was no one there "just to watch". Everyone was filing bk or an attorney representing someone. The chances of you running into someone you know are slim to none unless they too are filing bk.

When we had our 341, the room was PACKED! There were a few law students observing for a class, but other than them, everyone else was there for their 341's. While it's a public room, the only thing going on at that time is 341's. If you see someone you know, they will likely be there for the same reason you are. Try not to worry about it!

Depends on the Court House how your 341 will be handled. And as FOMO said, you'll be going to a Federal Court House. Not your County or City Court House.
In our case, the 341 Meeting Room was in the basement. We had to show ID to a Federal Marshall who checked our names off his list. We went thru a metal detector and got on an elevator with another Federal Marshall who took us downstairs.
The only people in the 341 Meeting Room were attnys, Filers, the Trustee, the Trustee's assistant, and another Federal Marshall.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

I went in jeans and a t-shirt, I don't think it mattered since the I don't think the trustee could see more that 3ft ahead. There were probably 15 people in the room, It was actually kind of funny because no one wanted to make eye contact with anyone else. Also after hearing some of the people I felt a little better about our situation.Filed Chapter 13: 3/12/07

"Also after hearing some of the people I felt a little better about our situation."
Me, too.
There was one poor older lady who was SO bad off, I felt guilty for being there. I'm not that bad off - YET. She didn't have any teeth at all, and admitted to smoking 10 packs of cigarettes every week. It was pretty obviously her only solace in the world. She was represented by an unctous oozing attorney who reminded me of ... Uriah Heep
Then there was a woman of about 65 who had never worked - and lost her husband six years ago ... She was heavily made up with long fingernails, an expensive coloring job and lots of gold jewelry. My thought was: Loneliness sets in and the shopping channel is her friend. Poor thing. She had a young woman from her attorney's office with her.
There were two other women about my age (half a century), who were representing themselves, but DRAT! I was called first.
One of my creditors (credit union) showed up because I asked her to - I am reaffirming two debts. We have had a close relationship throughout this past three horrible years, and she is one of the two creditors who even pretended to work with me. They're local. Anyway, she was there, sitting in the attorney's/creditor's seat, but she was a friendly.
ALL WOMEN in the room when I had my 341. Even the trustee and the one with the badge.
Coulda had a tea party under other circumstances.Last edited by HenriettaHen; 05-11-2007, 07:44 AM.

Mine was all married couples, I think even the trustee and his assistant ( but I'm not sure )
We had one couple there who had 5 kids all under 10. The women's only ID was her food stamp card. It sounded like they lived in a shack at best and they drove away in a 1981 POS.
Another couple told the trustee that since they are filing she decided to quite her job and go back to school, I don't think he liked it to much, but he still recomended to confirm.
Most though were just like us, behind on the mortgage with a few CC's just trying to get ahead again.Filed Chapter 13: 3/12/07

Our lawyer leaned over and wispered while we were waiting that ours was simple and would go quicker than the ones we were watching. He was right, but the funny thing was I don't thing any of the longer ones we watched lasted over 5 or 10 minutes.
I walked out of there felling better about our lawyer and about our situation.
We did see one of the couples with the horrible lawyer at our debtor education class, but we live in a rather small town with really only one consumer credit counseling place in town.Last edited by JollyGG; 05-11-2007, 08:03 AM.Filed: 10/26/2006
