Anyone change their name, during or after BK?

Yeah, so I am named after some people in my family who I despise. In my life right now, I just filed bankruptcy to start over financially, I am getting ready to graduate college in May at the young age of 33. A job in my field will actually be a decrease from the income on my petition, but still sooo looking forward to a new career to get out of this stressful one I am in now. I recently started getting help for my bipolar and depression issues I have fought since high school. And over the past year and a half I have figured out so many things about life that I wish I had learned 15 years ago.

So thinking of all of this I am wanting to have my name legally changed to go along with this new life, do-over, I am working towards. I know about everything in the BK financials is tied to social # and account numbers. Do you think I am going to have to wait for discharge (7/16 barring objections or fraud accusation) or will I need to wait even for case closure? This has nothing at all in regards to running from creditors or BK proceedings, just something I feel the need to do for the reasons above.

I plan on asking my trustee what kind of implications there would be, but just wondering if anyone here has looked into this before me. I would really like to do this in May, but my 341 isn't until May 16.

I'd wait until after your bankruptcy is discharged and closed to change your name. Don't see why it would be a problem since your SSN won't be changing.

I have a GF in the process of getting a divorce. In her State, they will allow her to revert to using her maiden name. GF is gonna take back her maiden name and then file BK after the divorce is complete.

I don't see why you can't change your name. Personally, I'd think it would be better after your BK is said and done, tho.

I changed my name after my BK (back in the 90's), I was using my nickname for quiet some time and just decided to keep it that way and legally changed my name to my nick name.
