How long did it take your attorney?

For me now 2 1/2 months since i payed in full.

I paid my attorney mid april, filed may 02 of this year and just had my meeting of creditors to discharge my chapter 7 Jun 18!!! Demand a refund and find a new atty or light a proverbial candle, NO >>>blow torch<<< under his/her a**!!!!!

I hired a BK mill initially...paid a $100 retainer....then ran into the delays everyone seems to experience with these firms. I spent 2 to 3 hours on hold waiting to talk to an attorney with a question....when I finally got thru ..I was talking to their security guards.

I got bad vibes over this, and decided not to send in any money, and seek out a small local firm. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I sent a certified letter to the BK Mill I first hired asking for the retainer back....it came back as undeliverable. Go figure.

Just my advice ...do your homework....talk to several attorneys, and watch out for these "big box" firms.

Once I went with the smaller firm....it took 2 weeks to file.

I went with a local atty who specializes in bk. He charged me $400 less than legal helpers.

I had an initial phone consult on Friday and called him on the following Monday to say I had decided to file. We set out face to face meeting for that Thursday where I gave him all the info he needed. The papers were ready for my signature the following Monday and he file them on Tuesday.

So it was 11 days from the free phone call to the filing. I did have the cash to pay him right away.

went for my consult on a monday...called back on Wednesday, told attorney I had decided to file, he told me what documentation to bring to his office on Thursday. He typed all the information into his computer, printed out schedules, I reviewed, signed and was filed on Friday. His fee was included in the plan (chapter 13) it didnt hurt at all. Guess I got lucky with this one.
