How long did it take your attorney?

What a mess and this would be the only reason I wouldn't recommend legalhelpers.com, they're not very fast.

We talked with and retained an attorney on the 2nd of Feb. Gave them our checking account info to take the rest out on the 23rd, when we got our tax refund. Well, it came a week early and I called to tell them it was there and they could do the EFT anytime they wanted.

Fast Forward to the first week of March and turns out someone idiot put our account in wrong in their computer, so that got fixed and by the end of the first week of March they got their money. I had already sent them EVERYTHING they requested, so they had everything for the Petition since Feb 10th!

I still have NO petition to review, how long did it take your attorney's office to get you a petition for review? Also, I've not been given anything to fill out regarding our assets (yeah, right LOL). Will that be with the petition papers? I had originally hoped we would be filing by the first of April. As it is they're telling me they'll have it out by the end of THIS week to us.

We retained our atorney the end of January, and still havent gotten papers to sign. When i called to see when we would be signing, they reccomended we file the first part of April. We had used a credit card in January, so they wanted to do the 90 day rule. Just to be on the safe side.

They may just be looking out for you, concerning use of credit cards, or something similar. But we did have to fill out the paper with all our assets. Good luck to you.

Have you called the 1-888 number for Macey & Aleman and discussed your petition with the central customer service center?

When I retained my attorney, he explained that it would take 30-45 days to complete all the documents, and that's assuming that waiting a month or so would not put you in a better position, and that you have paid them. Another two weeks to file.

The payment plan delays your filing. They don't even start until your all paid up.

I had anticipated filing by the end of April, which is actually about the earliest it could be filed without a chance of objections.

As it is, probably won't get filed until mid June or so. I will pay in full within two weeks from now.

No biggie for me, my position won't change much anyway. I'm in no rush.....

        Call them.

        Regards,

        CPO

The day we retained our attorney he gave us our homework which I returned to them a few days later. It took them one week to get our petition ready for us to review. We went and reviewed it and signed it on the morning of Halloween and he filed it that afternoon.

wow, I am really feeling fortunate with our attorney now! After going in for the consults, we decided who we wanted to use, called up the attorney we chose, made an appointment, went in and all of the paperwork was filled out while we were sitting there in the office. Signed everything right then. I went back about 5 days later with the cash (the only form of payment they accepted) and the bk was filed that day.

CPO - yeah, I have been calling, maybe too much, maybe I'm a PIA now to them. They messed up the car appraisals, got them ALL wrong, wrong makes, years, etc. I'm just not very happy with them right now. When I call they are VERY helpful, no complaints in that dept. I just have ZERO patience.

It's not that you have zero patience....remember, you ARE the customer. They have not performed very well and have not met your expectations.

Incorrect data is pretty much inexcusable assuming you provided correct data in the first place....

I would watch this attorney closely, and make sure you do use that 1-888 number and express your frustration with this bonehead.

Don't forget this attorney works for the group and they may want to know about marginal performance.

If his paralegal fouled up the paperwork, and they are otherwise just buried with customers, then you may be able to understand some delay.

                Trust your instincts on this.

I'm not giving them excuses, just input into your sitrep.

                Best regards,

                CPO

                  From July to January....

.....that is how long it took my attorney to complete my paperwork and get it filed. Don't ask me WHY it took so long or why I was such a patient customer.....because I do not know the answer to either question.

Needless to say, it was not a happy 7 mths.

Came in on Wednesday night and dropped off all requested documents. Next week, Wednesday night we signed everything, and he filed it on Thursday morning.

So -- 1 week from drop off to filing actual petition. (Initial consult was week before all of this)

Wow I can't believe how long it's taking some attorneys to finish the paper work. It's not like they get paid more for taking longer. I am really thankful for our attorney now. And that he fisnished everything so fast.

We hired our attny, fees paid in full, end of March. Filed mid September.

Drove us crazy, but he was just waiting.

We needed to move. We skipped out early on a lease and included that Landlord in our BK. Then we needed at least a couple of months in the new place to establish utilities and such.

Then our attny waited another couple of months after that.

All in all, it was in our best interests. Considering the amount of debt we were discharging. Using Out of State Exemptions, and such. Gave the Court a while to settle into the New Law before we popped up on the radar.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

CPO - yeah, they are short the managing attorney in the Detroit office (the one we're using) because she's out on Maternity Leave, but to get the makes completely wrong when I sent them copies of the titles. That's not cool, so yeah, I'm sitting right on top of them, calling every week if I have to.

I had everything prepared before I filed. It seemed like everything happened overnight. Too bad I didn't consider Pro Se, but with an attorney, better safe than sorry.

CMIYC - yeah, that's the kicker - they already had 50% of everything they needed from me at the first visit, so this really burns my a$$ that we're almost 2 months from then and STILL haven't filed.
