I want to file for chapter 7 and I have no assets. Everything is in my husbands name. I don't even work but I can not afford an attorney.Anyone ever use do it yourself software or know of any of these full service companies that do it for you. I was even thinking of hiring a paralegal but don't know how to find one.Does anyone have any suggestions or know of places that can help me?

Read a NOLO book or take your time in here (really- no other site comes close to this for sheer amount of varied experience and answers). make a list of things that you are unsure of, and when you have the answers go for it. Also download the BK forms and the means test and prcatice them, and read and reread tham to see if any spots may complicate your situation.

Start here, THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT, IT IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION, I PERSONALLY DID NOT USE THEM.
It will give you some ideas.
Do an online google search for online bankruptcy petition preparers and see what you come up with.
THINK ABOUT THIS CAREFULLY, see the thread I started in this forum PLEASE.
GOOD LUCK!

Lee, you can get the bankruptcy forms here http://www.uscourts.gov/bkforms/index.html click on Part 1 the official forms. Here is the link to the trustee's website http://www.usdoj.gov/ust/ you will be able to get information on the means testing and court approved credit counseling services in your area(remember the credit counseling must be done before you file). I would like to advise, unless you know you are going to be a straight no problem no asset chapter 7 case, it is very difficult to file pro se without the help and guidance of an attorney. If you are fall into a no asset ch7 case, then I can only tell you that filing pro se can be done and is done everyday, just be sure to educate yourself to the fullest extent."Try to save money. I've merged your threads together so all your responses will be in one place.
As HHM suggested,..........
Please do not start multiple threads with the same question in various Sections of the Forum.
You're more likely to get the most responses with 1 thread posted in the appropriate Section.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

I used a paralegal to fill my forms but that was for the old law. With the new law I would try and use an attorney unless you know FOR SURE you have researched and know the information. Regardless take advantage of going to see at least 3 attorneys for free consultations. This will give you very good information and won't cost you anything!! Stick around and ask as many question and we answer as many as we can! The library can be a wealth of information also!Chapter 7 Pro Se....Discharged Feb. 2006

Hey there, take your time and do a lot of research. get the Nolo book this is like the BK bible with tons of info. Read, learn and ask a lot of questions. No questions is too dumb.
My husband and I filed pro se, however, we used a paralegal for $200. I was a nervous wreck and I did not trust my mental state to complete the forms :-) We were over the median, no assets but we could have had a few red flags, that I guess did not turn out to be red flags, this is info I decided not to share with the board because I did not want to jinx my file. Now we are "awaiting closing"
It can be done but you have to educate yourself to the fullest. It really isn't that hard to do. Do a search on all the pro se filers and their results this should make you feel at ease.
Good luck to you and welcome to the first step of your new beginning.Success is reachable, stretch out your arm and grab it.
