A dog is considered an asset? With all the dogs sitting in shelters, including purebreds? Thats just messed up. Unless it was a showdog from Westminster....good breeding stock as one would say.
I have a large, purebread and rather expensive breed. He'd bite anyone who came in my home unwanted let alone anyone trying to take him...oy!

Right now I am wondering If I have to list my laptop and desktop computer, as both are sitting in a heap for bulk trash day. Dead beyond repair the geek squad said...cant even start the desktop anymore, hard drive and motherboard blew. What about a Tv that only plays with a VCR but wont pick up channels anymore? Do I list EVERY DVD or just say 25 DVD's $XX?
What if a bed is broken, do I put 'broken bed'? Yes, my stuff is in bad shape.. Some of its only a year old too. Kids are nuts.

My attorney pretty much listed all of my electronics *and* household goods (excluding clothing and jewelry) under "misc. household goods". Of course, in my state (KS), pretty much all of your household goods are exempt, and you don't have to itemize up to a certain value...it may be different in your state.

Shoot...even if you have to list your broken computers and TV, you could probably say it's all worth $10, if that, in its present condition.

I thought the same thing about the dogs...but I read it...I'm not sure if it's true or only true in some districts...I have a small, expensive purebred female. She had her litter and was fixed before we filed, so I'm guessing she's no longer an asset to anyone except me

Our attny listed our "mut" cat. I think it depends on what's "customary" for your Court whether or not "regular" household pets are listed. But then again,..... If you're gonna claim food and litter and other pet supplies in your monthly expenses on Schedule J, you'd almost have to list your pet(s) with your Personal Property.

About DVD's and such,............ Are you using State or Federal Exemptions??!!

If you're using State and several of the DVD's "belong" to your kids,..... Say 20 of them,...... Then you'd say 5 DVD's and list an amount like $25. Or whatever they sell for at garage sales in your area.

Don't say "X" Beds, a sofa, "Y" chairs, etc. Just say "Miscellaneous Household Goods" and set a $$$ amount. Maybe look at a few filings on PACER and see what the going value/household is in your area. On average, you could probably say somewhere between $2K-$3K and not raise an eyebrow.

Last spring we had 22 cats and kittens. Not unusual for springtime country living but if they had seen that in Dallas, they would have freaked.

BTW, we are now down to 4, the mut across the street got 'em.

And in case you are wondering why we don't fix 'em...they keep away the rattlers.

We are using federal, because we need enough to cover the equity in our car it looks like. I'm going to ask several attorneys before we decide.

Wow, Granny thats alot of kitties. My sister has 16, but lives on 200 acres. She has a rattler issue too, even up here in the northeast. These are Timbers and we find them in her pool taking a dip all the time. One we found last year sunning on the porch was 7 feet long!!! They FREAK me out. There is a big kingsnake who eats the smaller ones for snacks.

Like I said, we are down to 4 now (and only 1 of those is a female)...none of the babies made it and most of the 22 were babies. But we have 2 acres and also had a rattler sunning in our sunroom. With two grandbabies living here, we need all the protection we can get.
