    Are we monitored after filing?

Once you file either a 7 or 13, is your checking account monitored closely to see what's going in, what's going on a debit card, etc......????

I know I am going on a trip the end of April, early May. I have been on a waiting list for a workshop for over a year and the fee is paid, airlines tickets were bought months ago, before I even considered filing for BK.
I am going to need my debit card to book a room, rent a car, etc....but then pay cash and not put it on the card. Will that show up?

Please don't think "oh, she's filing BK but she can go on vacation." This has been planned for quite some time and obviously will be the last trip for a long time. Just wondering if I should file just before I go or right after I get back? It will have been 6 months then since I have used any cc and the time one lawyer suggested I wait to file.

Any thoughts on how they track your spending after you file???

    Thanks,

    Toomuch

I would file after you get back from your trip IF you can wait that long, the trustee does ask if you have any cash on hand. And any substantial amount he may want it. Just play it safe. AND ENJOY THAT VACATION/Workshop! Don't worry about being bashed in here about any decisions you have made or decide to make about what you did or are going to do with your money. This is a cool site and very supportive! I thought I was going to get ripped apart due to my gambling and filing bk, but people are this site are sooo supportive!

    Best wishes, Catchmeifyoucan !

No. Your accounts are not typically monitored after filing.

Since you mentioned a workshop, that sounds like this is a professional trip related to your job - if it is, that doesn't qualify as a "vacation". Have you discussed this with your lawyer? What does he/she say?

Don't know if you are aware of this, but some car rental companies won't accept a debit card or cash as payment. Call the rental company you are planning to use or visit their website and make sure they will accept cash or debit cards.

I would file right after you get back. You don't want to be out of touch with your lawyer right after filing in case something unexpected ends up needing your participation or signature immediately.

Good luck and enjoy your workshop!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

I know you guys are supportive!! I really lucked out finding this forum. I was told in the beginning to ask questions and here I am, everyday, asking away....
Funny you mentioned gambling. We will be flying into Vegas and then after the workshop in Kanab, Utah, we'll be going back to Vegas for a few days. We aren't heavy gamblers....just play the nickle, quarter slots. I love Vegas though. It is the perfect retreat, whether you gamble or not.

Ya know, I didn't think about that. I have been heavily involved into animal rescue for a couple of years. In fact, I know that a big portion of my cc debt is related to that. I foster cats, go to Petsmart every weekend of my life to adopt them out. I pay for all spay/neuter, medical, food, litter and anything else related as the org I foster for is small and never has any money to spare. Most animal rescue orgs don't.

So I decided to start my own non profit, which is on hold now, until I talk to an attorney. Sorry to ramble, but that is the reason for the workshop.

Yes, I do know. AAA has a card called a Travel card with a visa logo. It is like Travelers Cheques, so I'm told. I think it has a limit of 9,999.00 you can put on it. I have already made car rez at the time I booked everything else. I need to call and ask if they will accept this Travel Card.

I really want to apply for a secured cc just for the trip, but pay cash. I don't think that would be wise at this point, but I need a rental. Plus, in Vegas, I think you need a cc for booking rooms there, which I have not done. Shoot. Now I'm getting all worried about the trip.

You are right. However, the end of March will be the 6 months the attorney wants me to wait. I'm seeing others, so I'll ask them. I don't want to wait too long to file because I know the creditors are going to be after us full force any day now.

Good luck and enjoy your workshop!
Thank you so much. It is the bright spot in my future, besides having a pulse.

Sorry for the previous post. I don't know how to multi quote and the whole post looks like it was from one person.

Is there a section that explains how to quote, etc..on this forum??

                No stress, TM!

There aren't instructions here on the website - at least I've never stumbled across them.

Here's how I split long posts apart to answer specific parts of it:
                1. Open the member's post.
                2. Click "Quote" at the bottom of the message.
                3. Wherever you want to "break" the original post into sections to answer specific questions, hit Enter to start a new paragraph.
                4. Type in [ QUOTE ] without the spaces before and after QUOTE
                5. At the end of the sentence or sentences where you want the original post to stop so you can supply the answer, type in [ /QUOTE ] again without the spaces before and after /QUOTE.
                6. Press enter and start typing what you want to say on the next new line.
                7. To be sure everything worked as expected, I always check Preview Post before Submit Reply.

There's a Multiquote icon just to the right of the Quote button, but I've never been able to figure out how it works. Jump in here, those members who are wiser in the ways of the Multiquote icon than I am!

Others may have even simpler ways to accomplish this, so I hope they chime in! I love learning how to do things better!

No, it's not "monitored"; however the trustee could ask you to produce further bank and/or credit card statements at some point during your BK. As long as you keep it all business (no side trips, etc), I think you'll be just fine.

My job requires me to travel - a LOT - and I continued to do so during my BK. Of course it really was all business travel, paid for by the company, etc.

                    Best of luck,
