    PACER! They got me!

I haven't had a PACER bill since 2014. Somehow, I managed to run up a $39 quarterly PACER bill from 1/1/2022 to 3/31/2022. Be careful out there! I was charged $3.00 for a single query. I was also charged $3.00 for each of several documents.

I promised myself to never had a PACER bill again but ... just like that.

Well, the Federal government does not provide a budget for PACER. It was designed to be a self-sustaining system through fees. The attorneys and creditors would pay to use the system. Ordinary citizens are "somewhat" insulated with $30 of free queries per quarter. I think the free part should be more, but, again, this is a self-sustaining system and is not paid for from the Federal budget.

At one point, recently, they were concerned that it was making too much money from the fees. They are in the middle of a new upgrade (Nextgen), which I'm sure the fees have (or will) cover.

Each of my dogs and cats have a PACER account with privacy.com virtual cards. They were concerned during the pre-petition year and the first year of my BK. My pets did a lot of research for me which was very helpful when I couldn't get unlimited searches at the federal courthouse due to COVID.
