What questions should I ask potential attorneys?

I am sure there are great bk attorneys and ones who are not so great. So I guess I will use the phone book and interview 3-4 as I see everyone recommending.

Are there certain questiosn those of you who have found good (or not so good) attorneys would suggest I ask? Is it important that they are in my county? Would that mean they know the trustees and what to expect of them? I am near Dallas, but in a different county, so should I look for one in my county?

Here are two of my favorite "find a good lawyer" pages that helped me a lot during our interview phase:

    Hope they help you too!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

I would ask how available they will be throughout the whole process of your BK (especially if you get thrown into a Ch13 5 year plan)

Call back after your Consult with a couple of questions. See how quickly either the attny or his paralegal/assistant respond to your call. That's a good indicator right there.

Also, look up your Court's home web page. See who the panel/standing Trustees in your area are. Maybe try and schedule a Consult with one of them.

Best reference I'd say to check is PACER. Register and then search your BK District for cases filed by different attnys. See how they have come out.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
