How do you request a copy of the note?

Seems simple yet wondering if any guidelines exist and/or precautions when going about this - Certainly don't wan't to overly alert them of anything and give a them a chance to get all their ducks in row.

If i ask and they don't have it, am i free or can they then contact the original note holder down the road?

    Thanks appreciate your info/experiences.

Not sure, but i think you can contact the county clerk, as mortgages are usually recorded - usually.

So it's just as easy then for the lienholder to contact the clerk - meaning if i request it and they don't have it handy they can also just request it? Is all they have to do to prove ownership of the note is provide a copy, not original or anything?

      Thanks for the reply.

The original is the one that is recorded (at least with deeds and other official docs- i assume mortgages are the same way). A certified copy from the clerk is just as good as an original. but no need to certify it if it is for information purposes.

Depending on where you live, the rules to request these types of documents can be verified with the clerk, but in fla where i am, it is public record, so anyone can request it.
