My 401k has gained ZERO in the past 17 years.
    Just saying.
For a while it was worth half of its value.
Compound interest isn't always guaranteed, unless you've got some kind of crystal ball.

Cashing out 401k wisdom aside, my FICO right after discharge now is around 660. Assuming I make every payment on time and do what I can to improve my credit, do you think I'll have trouble getting another mortgage in five years? That's my biggest worry about all of this. By then I'll be at my job 15 years and it's a pretty safe job. I make around $60k and now my wife is getting SSDI. I estimate I'll have another $25k (I'm working a second part time job that goes in another bank acct just for the refinance) to put down on the refinance.

Anyone? The refinance is my major fear. I hope 5 years is plenty of time.

I don't think that anyone wants to touch a five-year-prediction of any kind with a thirty-foot-pole these days...

Your concept makes sense *if* things get better.

If they don't...it's highly unlikely that any other route would've been more beneficial.

          Good luck to us all.
