    Foreclose after Ch 7

So we've decided to walk away from our house. Our attorney said that the "deed in lieu of foreclosure" was the best way to go. Is this the best way to go?

Now I know we're responsible for this property until it's out of our names, but what do we do about the power, etc? Turn it off? Water too? We're concerned about cold nights where a pipe could bust.
2/23/11 - Filed notice to convert from Chapter 13 (1/13/10) to Chapter 7
4/4/11 - Meeting of the creditors
    6/30/11 - Discharged!!!!!!

If you are not living in the place, I would not turn off the power. Put some old lamps on timers and a radio or two. You can turn the heat down to 50, and winterize your plumbing.

Turn off water heater, water, and drain the water heater. Mark the breaker with a note that "don't turn on water breaker till filled with water" (instant destruction). Put a bit of anti freeze down all drains. Open all water valves and outside valve to drain pipes. Leave old furniture in one opened draped room to make house look lived in. cancel paper and keep the yard clean.

Telling from authority, that in our County when a house goes vacant you can time the break in to the day until the place is stripped. Some real damage of they go after copper plumbing. We live in the poorest County of FL. Half the houses either vacant or for sale signs. 'Hub
