well I'm back folks....here's the situation.....
I got discharged from chp. 7 bankruptcy July 1, 2011 (no asset)....about a few weeks ago (maybe a month?) I got a letter from the mortgage holder saying the loan modification I had applied for LAST YEAR was approved. Even if I hadn't gone through BK, they only lowered the payment down from 1400 to 1000, which with my income alone, I still couldn't have afforded it.....obviously, since I didn't reaffirm my mortgage in my bankruptcy, it doesn't benefit me at all to accept the loan mod so I didn't send any kind of response back to them...BUT, this made me realize that they hadn't even started the foreclosure process on the house ....the last paperwork I remember receiving was a notice of intent to foreclose.....sooo now I quite possibly am looking at being stuck with the house in my name for another year or two or even three!!
i just want it out of my hands....I'm newly married, my husband and I moved out and are renting a house, my brother is staying in the house I'm stuck with (anyone know if this is illegal?? I haven't changed my address or anything like that, just don't stay there anymore) I don't want to have to worry about having to repair damages that keep happening (i.e. hurricane Irene made a mess in my backyard) and call me selfish but I just don't want the responsibility anymore....the co-owner of the house has no intentions of taking over the responsibility of it and even if I said screw it, he has to step up and take over, I fear that he will still do nothing and then we get hit with fines from the city, etc.....
what can I do to get rid of it faster??? if there even is anything i can do??
Just an FYI: I know staying there rent free is the best option financially but I would rather not live in a house that I can't fix because I'm not keeping it anyways....it was depressing and emotionally draining staying there so that is no longer an option I'd like to consider....
Thanks in advance for the help!
