IamOld, thanks for the suggestion. I have my girlfriend and family here, so it would be virtually impossible to relocate. The sad part is Los Angeles is the 8th largest economy in the entire world. So the jobs have got to turn up. the toughest part is go after a job when the companies are each flooded by many hundreds of applicants. Many jobs also have a requirements list of a dozen or more areas, if you have 10 or 11 out of the 12, you don't get past the front door.

Also, Iamold, I have taken jobs that were extremely long commutes each way, up to 2 hours, only to be fired eventually anyways. e.g. I have had one company sell to another company and fire everyone, another one merged with another company and fired everyone, plus more laying off employees during the recession or to cut costs, so even if I moved to another state, who's to say a company wouldn't terminate me within a few months. So for this, I leave my family and girlfriend?

You are quite right of course - that is why I...decided ultimately not to take a job in NC and stay where I am...what if it doesn't work out? There are a lot more jobs (albeit a lot more people as well) where I am now, and as you said, what happens if you move and it doesn't work out? I think you've just answered my "should I go or stay" question as well!!!!

Latest update, I have been looking at rental properties. I am trying to meet with the owners directly to see about them renting to me. Most of the houses suck and all have been asking for credit application and proof of income. When I narrow down a house, I will offer a large deposit in leu of good credit or a job (if I don't have one by then).

In the meantime, I contacted HUD and they referred me to a credit counselor who will attempt to work with Fannie Mae on letting me rent my place, so I went through all the credit and background info and they are sending me a package to fill out and send back. Once I send this to them, they will attempt to work with Fannie Mae to get me a rental option on this house. Crossing my fingers that something works out so I have a place to live.

You know when I was looking around for rentals in NC, an apt co told me that if my credit would come back "red" (would it ever!!!), then a co-signed/co-applicant with good credit would be ok...OR as you said an individual....

i'm hoping your find something...i'm certain you will!! i know here it's getting so bad with the empty places they are really getting a bit more bk friendly.

it might take a while but it will work out. shoot, i can't see how the bank wouldn't allow you to rent it, at least it would be better than letting the place be vacate??

I may be getting a job offer today. I got a call from a company (not a good company at all or even a stable company, but a company at least) and we are in that negotiation stage, where they know what I have made before and without saying exact amounts, we are both touching on the areas and hopefully they will send me that job offer this afternoon that reflects this amount. If I accept, I would start in a week. If I get the job, I would be in a much better position to negotiate with a home owner to rent, plus I have a large deposit, so that should help as well.

I called one realtor representing a house my gf and I saw the other day and the realtor was pretty cold and said without good credit the renter won't deal with you. I said I have a large deposit and how much would he require to make the deal go through (she is checking with him, but likely a no go). But I have a lot more houses to look at. The more I visit, the better the odds I will find one and one in an area that is closer to where the jobs are (and one in a decent neighborhood would be great as well).

Good for you on the job! Hopefully it will come through and work out great. Once you lock down the job your prospects for a rental should drastically improve. Any landlord looking to rent to a "credit score" will find some serious disappointment out there. A credit score is NOT a reflection of who people are!

When I had a great credit score I had suppressing debt and absolutely not a pot to piss in. Now I have a low credit score, no debt, large savings and can pay almost anyone's asking rent without a problem. If that's not good enough for them, then their house can sit emplty while I look at hundreds of others. You will get something

I did see some homes say bad credit ok if you can show proof of income. So I will keep looking for places, and after starting the job, I can hopefully soon after nail a place down and start a new life.

you'll find a place to rent. with more and more foreclosures there are a lot out there and i'm sure there's someone that would like to take your money!
